Jayhawks Drop Home Opener To SUNY Niagara
A crowd of over 1,000 was treated to an action-packed game Friday night at Northwest Arena.
The final score of an 8-3 loss by Jamestown Community College to SUNY Niagara wasn’t indicative to how close the game was on the ice.
After the Thunderwolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Jamestown CC battled back as Jed Hirliman netted the first-ever home-ice goal for Jamestown to make it 3-1. The tally was assisted by Spencer Bell.
The Jayhawks faced a 5-3 deficit late in the third period when a breakaway opportunity was fired just over the net. A goal would have made it a 5-4 game.
Instead, it was Jamestown taking a five-minute penalty that saw Niagara score three unanswered goals to make it the 8-3 final.
Jamestown is back on the home ice Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Alfred State on alumni night.
