Williams, Whipsnakes Move On To Semifinals
The Maryland Whipsnakes scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter in Monday’s quarterfinal of the Premier Lacrosse League against Denver. Those two tallies put the Whipsnakes ahead 11-9 and it was all they needed as they held off Denver 11-10 for a spot in the semifinals.
It was TJ Malone scoring the game-winning goal, his second tally and fifth point of the night to go along with his three assists. Irving native Zed Williams also added a goal as Maryland managed to squeak through to the semifinals.
Denver was led by Dalton Young’s hat trick, but his offensive outburst was not enough to keep the Outlaws’ season alive.
The Whipsnakes will next play the top-seeded New York Atlas in the semifinals this Saturday on Long Island at 5 p.m.
Maryland and New York split contests in the regular season with the Whipsnakes taking the most recent contest on June 28 by a score of 16-12 and Williams had a pair of goals in the game.
The other semifinal is between the Boston Cannons and Utah Archers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
