Sleggs, DeYoe Have Big Nights As Portville Prevails
PORTVILLE — Eli Sleggs threw for 186 yards and three touchdowns, while Max DeYoe added 129 yards and a score on the ground as Portville beat Gowanda/Pine Valley 46-20 on Thursday in the nonleague football opener for both teams.
Portville led 27-6 at halftime as DeYoe ran for a 20-yard score, Sleggs threw a 10-yard touchdown to Aiden Defazio, Breckham Hunt ran for a 24-yard touchdown and Adam Roe ran for a 12-yard score for the hosts.
Gowanda/Pine Valley’s lone first-half touchdown was a 59-yard strike from Carter Capozzi to Reginald Irion that made it 21-6 at the time.
Gowanda/Pine Valley made it 27-12 in the third quarter when Capozzi connected with Winter Mentley-Peters for a 42-yard touchdown, but Portville scored the next three touchdowns to put the game away.
Sleggs ran for a 10-yard score before throwing touchdowns of 39 and 27 yards to Defazio and Mehki Muhyee, respectively.
Gowanda/Pine Valley’s Zane Rogers capped the scoring with a 5-yard score.
Portville outgained Gowanda/Pine Valley 413-223.
Landon Schappacher had a pair of interceptions in the win.
