Hilliker, Calph Share Wednesday Travel League Lead With 78s

HARBORCREEK, Pa. — Josh Hilliker and Robert Calph tied for the low score of 78 at Downing Municipal Golf Course during this week’s Wednesday Travel League event.

Hilliker won the tiebreaker with a birdie on the top handicap hole (No. 7). Mike Baron finished third, 1 stroke back, with a 79. Hilliker led the front nine with 37, while Baron and Dave Wallace led the back nine with 38s.

Tom Destro and Gary Hazelton won the B and C Flights, respectively. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Carter Crabtree. Competing as an amateur, Crabtree, at just 11 years old, teamed up with his grandfather, Tom Sacilowski, and defeated the team of Dave Criscione and John Waterman in their six-hole match.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Hilliker (Nos. 7, 17), Jake Harp (No. 9) and Baron (No. 11); B Flight — Phil Hopkins (No. 1), Criscione (No. 4), Sacilowski (No. 7) and Destro (No. 18); C Flight — Hazelton (Nos. 1, 5), Gary Haase (No. 3), Frank Benamati (No. 6), Mike Dornan (Nos. 7, 8), Ryan Tofil (Nos. 9, 12, 14), Bob Thompson (No. 10) and Bob Kujawa (No. 17).

Closest to the pin were: Hazelton (No. 5), Larry Klajbor (No. 8), Baron (No. 11) and Ed Tofil (No. 15). Winners of the Steeplechase were: Calph (A Flight), Sacilowski (B) and Thompson (C).
