Sharon Rissel

Jamestown Community College’s Athletic Department recently announced that Sharon Rissel has been named the Western New York Athletic Conference’s Distinguished Person for the 2023-24 athletic year.

“Miss Sharon” as she is known by the Jayhawks, is a staple around the gym and golf course for Jamestown CC. Rissel volunteers to keep the home and road scorebooks for all the men’s basketball games. She also started to assist the women’s team when their bookkeeper left early in the season.

Rissel was always excited to help Jamestown CC student-athletes learn to do stats so they could turn that into a working position as the season progressed. Rissel took those skills and smile above and beyond for two Jamestown CC basketball tournaments where she not only helped the Jayhawks games, but was also a key figure in the games Jamestown CC wasn’t involved in.

Besides her infectious laugh inside the gym, Rissel also helps coordinate the volunteers for all of the Jamestown CC golfing events. She is a mainstay at the George Bataitis Open golf fundraising events and takes charge inside the registration tent to help volunteers for the week-long NJCAA championships.

When Rissel decides to hang up her No. 2 pencil, Jamestown CC will be a little less vibrant.
