Masters Swimmers Compete In Cleveland
CLEVELAND — Two members of the YMCA Jamestown Masters swim team came away with medals last week at the Masters Pan-American Games at Cleveland State University.
Debuting in his first international swim meet, YMCA employee Patrick Kelley, 39, claimed silver medals in the 50-meter butterfly, the 100-meter freestyle and the 50-meter freestyle in the 50-meter pool.
Swimming in his first international swim meet in 40 years, Jeffrey Barkstrom, 57, won a silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke; and captured a bronze in the 200-meter individual medley and the 50-meter butterfly. In his last event, the 100-meter freestyle, Barkstrom placed fifth.
Several swimmers from Jamestown were unable to attend, including 98-year-old Judy Young, who is a Chautauqua County Sports Hall of Fame swimmer.
The Masters Pan-American Games included athletes from more than 50 countries.
