Dean Johnson Memorial Wrestling Tourney Is July 27

WARREN, Pa. — Kinzua Wrestling Club (KWC) will hold the Dean Johnson Memorial Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, July 27, at 200 Struthers Street (formerly Riverside Lanes) in Warren.

Session one will take place from 9 a.m. to noon with divisions including Youth Open (8U, 10U, 12U), Youth Novice for first- and second-year wrestlers only (6U, 8U, 10U, 12U), and Girls Only Open (K-6th Grade pairing closest ages and weights).

Session two will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. with divisions including Boys/Girls Junior High (13-14), Boys/Girls High School (15-18), and Men/Women Open (19 & over). Using the Madison Weight System, wrestlers will be grouped by closest weight and age.

Rules include 1-1-1-minute periods for youth divisions, and 1:30/1:30/1:30-minute periods for junior high/high school/adult divisions. Sudden death periods are 1 minute, followed by a 30-second ride out.

PIAA modified rules will be used, and college out of bounds. Headgear is optional.

The goal is a 5-person round robin for four matches for each wrestler. Medals will be awarded. There will be live mat-side scoring results provided at arena.flowrestling.org.

Proof of age (as of July 27, 2024) is required if challenged.
