Firecracker Run Has Competitors Flock From Sea To Shining Sea

LAKEWOOD — Competitors from as far as Southern California spent their holiday morning racing in the Firecracker Run around Lakewood Beach put on by the Lakewood YMCA.

Hundreds of athletes signed up to compete in the event which was split up into the 10-kilometer run, a 2-mile run and a 2-mile walk.

Stealing the show in the 10K was 37-year-old Aiman Scullion coming in from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio as the top male finisher with a blazing time of 33:39, nearly a full minute faster than Gray, Tennessee’s Jack Brunecz running 34:26. Rounding out the top three was Bemus Point’s Jesse Rappole with a time of 36:13.

The top overall female finisher was Boise, Idaho’s Sadie Gollub with a time of 41:59, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio’s Nikki Niemeyer finished second at 43:30 and Bethesda, Maryland’s Rachel Greszler claimed third at 44:22.

Division winners for the males included: Chase Deimling in 14U from Chagrin Falls, OH; Sam Lindell in 15-19 from Warren, PA; Peter Auer in 20-24 from Bemus Point; Tony Swierk in 25-29 from Fredonia; Joe Skurski in 30-34 from San Francisco, CA.; Chris Gerth in 35-39 from Indianapolis, IN; Peter Mersich in 40-44 from Rochester; Shane Brown in 45-49 from Lakewood; Daniel Ayers in 50-54 from Raleigh, NC; Mike Hoffman in 55-59 from Hartland, WI; Tom Haag in 60-64 from Stow, OH; Rudy Mueller in 65-69 from Lakewood; and Michael Juppe in 70-74 from Hudson, OH.

Division winners for the females included: London Hamilton in 14U from Jamestown; Cassidy Scott in 15-19 from Rixeyville, VA; Hannah Sullivan in 20-24 from Lakewood; Madison Marra in 25-29 from Mars Hill, NC; Niemeyer in 30-34; Gollub in 35-39; Carrie Guiher in 40-44 from Sugar Grove, PA; Norine Cramer in 45-49 from Lakewood; Tracy Kelly in 50-54 from Jamestown; Lydia Samuelson in 55-59 from Ashville; Michele Keane in 60-64 from Atlanta, GA; and Charlotte Albright in 65-69 from Shaker Heights, OH.

The two-mile run was won by 15-year-old Jonah Greszler of Bethesda, Maryland with a time of 10:53; Jamestown’s Trenton Shutters took second overall with a time of 11:19 and 13-year-old Nora Bailey of Jamestown was third overall with a time of 11:27. The third best time by a male was from Jamestown’s Donavin Brown at 11:54.

The girls were rounded out by Seneca Scott of Rixeyville, VA at 13:32 and Bemus Point’s Marlana Cresanti at 14:03.

Division winners for the males included: Nathaniel Harris in 14U from Warren, PA; Zack Scott in 15-19 from Jefferson, GA; Jack Kinsman in 20-24 from Orchard Park; Karl Holmberg in 25-29 from Kennedy; Brendan Green in 30-34 from Bemus Point; Alex Reynolds in 35-39 from Lakewood; Scott Wright in 40-44 from Frewsburg; Richard Hinman in 45-49 from Salem, MA; Michael Hughes in 50-54 from Buffalo; Salim Sitabkhan in 55-59 from Lakewood; Lyle Hajdu in 60-64 from Lakewood; Bruce Main in 65-69 from Jamestown; and Donald Smith in 75 and up from Los Angeles, CA.

Division winners for the females included: Morgan Giltinan in 14U from Jamestown; Chloe Regan in 15-19 from Ashville; Hannah Boardman in 20-24 from Jamestown; Jessie Marra in 25-29 from Lakewood; Erin Abbate in 30-34 from Parkland, FL; Erin Herendeen in 35-39 from Greenville, SC; Lindsay Pappalardo in 40-44 from Jamestown; Dennie Wilson in 45-49 from Queensbury; Mindy Lawson-Crabtree in 50-54 from Frewsburg; Susan Rahauser in 60-64 from Ashville; and Stacey Curry in 70-74 from Jamestown.

The top male and female finishers in the two-mile walk came from Hamburg as Geoffrey Falkner finished at 17:03 and Brenda Falker led the women at 17:58.
