Muckdogs Beat Tarp Skunks Again

BATAVIA — A three-run fourth inning gave Batavia the lead and the Muckdogs held on for a 4-2 victory over the Jamestown Tarp Skunks in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action Thursday at Dwyer Stadium.

Jamestown (4-5) led 1-0 after the first inning as Leo Doyle (Wagner College) singled and Nigel Sebastianelli (Niagara County Community College) walked before DJ Stoianovich (Mansfield University) hit into a double play. Bobby Stang (University of Dayton) and Kobe Jones (Shorter University) followed with two-out walks before a bases-loaded walk to Aidan Wallace (University of Tampa) forced in the first run.

First-place Batavia (9-1) took a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning. Cooper Romich walked and Trevor Dutra reached on an error before James Bolton walked to load the bases. Yankiel Gonzalez was then hit by a pitch to force in the tying run and Caleb Walker hit a sacrifice fly to give the Muckdogs the lead. The third run scored on Sean Mindas’ RBI single.

Batavia added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Anthony Greco singled and scored a run.

Stoianovich walked with one out in the top of the sixth inning and later scored when Wallace was walked again with the bases loaded to make it 4-2.

Jamestown put a runner on in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, but could never get closer than the two-run deficit. Klayton Kiser (Drury University) led off the ninth with a single, but was caught stealing two pitches later, before Batavia’s Trey Bacon got the final two outs for the save.

Sam Hough (Bates College) took the loss for the Tarp Skunks, throwing four innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out two. Griffin Snyder (Clarion University) and Rob Dorn (University of Maryland-Baltimore County) combined to allow one run over four innings of relief. They allowed two hits and two walks while striking out three.

Devin Brooks started for Batavia and allowed one run on four hits and five walks in four innings while striking out one. Abdiel Ventura earned the win in his 1 1/3 innings of relief. He did not allow a hit, but walked three as five Muckdogs pitchers combined to hand out 10 free passes.

Doyle, Stang, Jones, Wallace, Kiser and Austin Matranga (Grand Canyon University) each had a hit for Jamestown.

The Tarp Skunks return home tonight for a 6:30 p.m. game against the Geneva Red Wings at Diethrick Park. The game is a Community Buyout Night, sponsored by Wegmans.
