Remember to mark your calendars for an amazing weekend of outdoor fun. On Saturday, the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club will host Take-A-Kid Fishing Day. This event will kick off at 9 a.m. at the Dunkirk Yacht Club in Memorial Park, offering a fantastic opportunity for kids aged 16 and under to enjoy a morning of fishing, learning and exciting prizes. The event will move to the Con Club facility at noon for even more fun. Life jackets are a must, but don’t worry if you don’t have one, as there will be a limited number available for loan and fishing gear. Special thanks go to support from Tim Hortons, Wells Enterprises, Bear Lake Rod & Gun, the Lake Erie Management Commission, Kids on the Fly Program, Ray Pauszek, Jack Forbes and dozens of other volunteers.

The excitement doesn’t stop there. On Sunday, the WNY Walleye Classic fishing tournament and Dunkirk Walleye Festival will be in full swing. Kids can join the action with a unique Kids Fishing Clinic and Tournament starting at 7:30 a.m. Pro angler and National Walleye Tour Championship finalist Craig Sleeman will be on hand to teach the young anglers about fishing basics and safety. Plus, the winner of the Kids Tournament will snag an incredible prize — a guided fishing trip with Sleeman himself.

But that’s not all; the festival will feature vendors offering delicious food, unique crafts, top-notch fishing gear and much more. With sponsors like FishUSA.com, Okuma, Demetri’s Restaurant and Vexus Boats, you know it will be an unforgettable weekend. Get ready for an action-packed, fun-filled time for the whole family. The Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, known to many as the “Con Club,” is located at 1 North Mullet St. in Dunkirk. The club is famous for friendship, bringing together fishermen, hunters, trappers and social friends where young and old share tales of secret fishing tactics, and hunting lore, and provide adrenaline-gripping tales of every sort, at times. New York state hunter safety training and firearm safety awareness classes are conducted here, as well as fly-tying lessons for kids and much more. The facility overlooks Dunkirk Harbor from the southwest corner, and it will be the site of the 20th annual NCCC Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Contest in August, with chairman Zen Olow at the helm. The club offers a social atmosphere for sportsmen, with a high focus on youth outdoor education. For info on the Take-A-Kid fishing event registration or joining the Con Club, call 716-366-8836.
