Orcutt, Bankoski Go Deep As Dunkirk Blanks Falconer

FALCONER — Greg Orcutt hit a grand slam and Dylan Bankoski added a home run as Dunkirk shut out Falconer 14-0 in five innings of Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball play Wednesday.

Orcutt, Thomas Shaffer and Anthony Cosme combined on a one-hitter with nine strikeouts on the mound.

Bankoski homered to lead off a five-run second inning. Paul Trippy III added an RBI single and Orcutt had an RBI double during the frame.

The Marauders (9-7, 7-3) added four more runs in the fourth. Zachary Zentz had an RBI single and Cosme had a two-run single during that frame.

Orcutt’s grand slam capped the scoring in the top of the fifth.

Trippy, Zentz, Orcutt, Shaffer and Cosme each had a pair of hits.

Erik Stenstrom’s single was the lone hit for the Golden Falcons (3-13, 1-11).

BROCTON CRUISES PAST PANTHERS

SOUTH DAYTON — Brocton’s Aiden Gatto hit a triple and knocked in two runs for the Bulldogs in a 11-4 Division 2 win over Pine Valley.

Donny St. George and Grant Gustafson each singled and had two RBIs, while Austin McIntyre went 3 for 5 for Brocton. The Bulldogs (6-6, 6-6) received a complete-game performance from Gustafson on the mound as he gave up just three earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out 10.

Pine Valley (0-13, 0-12) was led by Dylan Green with a single and an RBI. Trent Ivett took the loss on the mound with seven strikeouts and four earned runs in four innings of work.

RUSH STYMIES GATORS

FREDONIA — Owen Rush threw a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and two walks as Fredonia beat Allegany-Limestone 6-0 in Division 1 play.

The Hillbillies (12-3, 8-2) gave Rush a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Ashton Putney singled and later scored on Nathan Sercu’s two-out infield single.

Fredonia added five runs in the third. AJ Kinney and Brady Helmer opened the inning with back-to-back walks before Putney hit an RBI single. Matt Cowan, Rush and Sercu followed with runs batted in. Collin Luce later singled and Andrew Cowan walked before Collin Crowell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Vinny LaBella and Kyree Harmon each singled for the Gators (6-10, 2-8).

GEIGER TOSSES COMPLETE GAME

GOWANDA — A three-run first inning proved to be enough support for Gowanda sophomore Seth Geiger, who threw a five-hit shutout as the Panthers beat North Collins 3-0 in Division 3 play.

Geiger struck out six and walked two to outduel the Eagles’ Matt Warsaw, who allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out six.

Brayden Smith walked to open the bottom of the first and Blake Herman followed with a double before Carter Capozzi hit a two-run double to center field. With two outs, Geiger hit an RBI infield single to plate Capozzi.

Herman, Capozzi and Geiger all finished with two hits for Gowanda (12-3, 11-1).

Vincent Montaldi had a pair of hits, while Scott Armbruster, Warsaw and Zander Miller each had one for North Collins (10-3, 9-3).

SPIESMAN HAS BIG DAY

CLYMER — No. 8 hitter Andrew Spiesman went 4 for 4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead Clymer/Sherman/Panama past Westfield 15-5 in six innings of Division 2 action.

Kaden Beckerink went 3 for 4 with two doubles, four RBIs and four runs scored; Bryce Hinsdale was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored; Tate Catanese was 2 for 5 with three runs scored; and Grant Lictus was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for the Wolfpack (9-3, 9-2).

Beckerink struck out eight on the mound.

Danny Bratton went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored; Mason Baum was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored; and Aaron Fuller also had two hits for the Wolverines (1-9, 1-9).

SMITH DRIVES IN THREE

ELLICOTTVILLE — Hunter Smith went 2 for 3 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead Ellicottville past Randolph 15-8 in Division 3 action.

Cameron Mendell was 2 for 5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored; Owen Chudy was 2 for 5 with three RBIs; and Sean Crowley and Parker John also drove in two runs apiece for the Eagles (6-7, 5-7).

David Malone doubled and drove in a run, while Michael Bohall had two hits and two RBIs for the Cardinals (1-14, 1-11).

COUGARS TOP CHAUTAUQUA LAKE

MAYVILLE — Calvin Hilliker had three hits and five RBIs, while Mason Rhodes added two hits as Cassadaga Valley beat Chautauqua Lake 16-5 in Division 2.

Hunter Johnson struck out nine in five innings on the mound for the Cougars (7-6, 7-5). Bradley Windnagle, Logan Hayward and Johnson all had doubles in the win.

Devin Hewes had three hits, including a double; Cayden Blackman had two hits, including a double; and Nate Henry also had two hits for the Eagles (6-11, 6-7).

ROSS DOMINATES HUSKIES

SALAMANCA — Jaxson Ross struck out 10 in a complete-effort as Salamanca beat Olean 6-1 in Division 1 play.

Carmine Hoag was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while JT Auman had a double and a run scored for the Warriors (9-7, 3-7).

The Huskies fell to 7-6 overall and 7-3 in the league.
