Jamestown CC Splits With Finger Lakes CC Sunday In Salamanca

SALAMANCA — Jamestown Community College earned a split of its two-game series with Finger Lakes CC on Sunday, taking the first game 5-2 and dropping the second game 10-5 at Veterans Memorial Park.

Jamestown CC fell behind in game one after a two-run home run plated a pair of Lakers to bring the deficit to 2-0, but from there it was all Jayhawks.

Jamestown CC evened the game in the third, then took the lead on RBIs from Mitchell McKinney and Lucas Marsh for a 4-2 lead.

The two-run advantage held into the fourth, when Timothy Johnson collected a sacrifice fly to make it a three-run lead for Jamestown CC.

Dylan Kinney shut down Finger Lakes CC in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, allowing just two runs. He handed the ball off to De’Sean Rogers, who earned the save in the 5-2 victory.

It was a game of ifs for Jamestown CC in the second game. The Jayhawks trailed 1-0 in the first and appeared to tie things up in the second, but a play at the plate went against Jamestown CC and ended a fantastic scoring opportunity.

The Jayhawks were trailing 5-1 in the third when they started to rally. A bunt for Harley Hoag and another sacrifice for Johnson brought it to 5-3. In the fourth, Jamestown CC scored two more off of a double from Marsh and a sacrifice fly from Rogers to pull the Jayhawks within one.

From that point, it was errors dooming the Jayhawks as four runs were able to score against Jamestown CC thanks mostly to errors, and all of a sudden it was 9-4 Finger Lakes CC.

Both squads added a run in the seventh to make it a 10-5 final.

The win in game one snapped a 10-game losing streak for Jamestown CC.

The same teams are back at it Thursday, but this time Jamestown CC visits Canandaigua for a pair.

SOFTBALL

SYRACUSE — Jamestown Community College’s softball team finally hit the diamond to start their 2024 season at Onondaga CC on Saturday, but the bats stayed cold as they dropped the games 20-3 and 23-0.

The first game started with a Jayhawks lead as Haleigha Hardy scored on a bases-loaded error at first to put Jamestown CC up 1-0 early. Onondaga scored the next 10 runs in the game, with five in each of the first two innings, putting the Jayhawks in a 10-1 deficit.

Jamestown CC tried to rally in the third. Sophomore Angelique Palacio stole home to give the Jayhawks their second run, then Gracey Kenne singled to right to bring home Courtney Martin for a 10-3 affair. Unfortunately for the Jayhawks, Onondaga CC answered with nine in the bottom half of the frame on its way to a 20-3 win.

In game two, Onondaga jumped out to a commanding 11-0 lead in the first inning, and Jamestown CC didn’t have an answer, getting blanked at the plate in the 23-0 loss. Eleven errors doomed any hopes the Jayhawks had at a split in the series.

The losses knocked the Jayhawks down to 0-2 to start the year.
