Fredonia Spreads Ball Around In Rout Of Holland

HOLLAND — Seven different players scored touchdowns as Fredonia coasted past Holland 51-7 in Division 2 South flag football Monday.

“We obviously knew what we had coming back this year,” Fredonia head coach Nick Bertrando said, “but at the same time three of the seven touchdowns were from freshmen who are playing for the first time.”

Fredonia ran for 327 yards and passed for another 36. Francesca Pucci led the Hillbillies (4-1, 2-1) with 70 yards and a score, Ella Koopman had 59 yards and a score, Keilany Diaz had 57 yards and a score, Juliana Snyder had 51 yards and a score, Madelyn Polhamus had 32 yards and a score, Emma Patterson had 20 yards and a score, and Paige Elliot ran for 19 yards and a score, while also catching a touchdown.

“It’s definitely nice when you have multiple people you can hopefully spread the ball around to,” Bertrando said. “Everybody is on the same page, they are clicking and they are doing what we’ve worked on.”

Brianna Whitfield led the defense with five flag pulls, two passes defended and a sack, Elizabeth Morris had four flag pulls and two sacks, Gracia Domenico had four flag pulls and Lily Runkel also had four flag pulls.

Fredonia has won three straight games since a 26-0 shutout loss to Pioneer.

“They are very, very good,” Bertrando said of the Panthers. “That was a good wakeup call for us.”

The Hillbillies return to action Wednesday at home against Depew.
