SINCLAIRVILLE — Hunter Johnson made the most of his five-inning decision on the mound Tuesday, tossing a no-hitter, striking out 14 and walking two to lead Cassadaga Valley to a 12-0 victory over Pine Valley in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 baseball victory over Pine Valley at Cassadaga Valley Central School.

Johnson also helped his own cause with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Brad Windnagle added two singles and an RBI; Calvin Hilliker added a single and two RBIs; and Logan Heyward and Jordan Swanson each had a single. Swanson, Jackson Croll and Greg Edson scored twice, and Edson drove in a pair of runs.

RUSH SHINES FOR FREDONIA

FREDONIA — Owen Rush tossed a gem on the mound.

The senior was pretty good at the plate, too.

Added together, it was the right recipe to send Fredonia to an 11-0 five-inning victory over Falconer in a Division 1 game.

Rush, who tossed a complete-game one-hitter, struck out 10, walked two and threw 73 pitches, faced two batters over the minimum and helped his own cause with three hits, including a triple, drove in four runs and scored two more.

“He’s a four-year starter on the varsity and we count on him for a great bat and he matched it with a great outing on the mound,” Fredonia coach Tim Cowan said.

Rush’s teammates provided him with plenty of support.

Matt Cowan (double) added two hits, had three RBIs and scored two runs; Ashton Putney smacked a double and scored three runs; Nathan Sercue added a hit, drove in two runs and scored one; Andrew Cowan and Colin Luce both had RBI singles; and Luca Gullo collected a base hit and scored twice.

The victory improved the ‘Billies’ record to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the division.

For the Golden Falcons (2-3, 0-2), Nicholas Russell had a single to lead off the third inning for their lone hit. Erik Stenstrom worked into the fourth inning, struck out four and walked four.

BULLDOGS GET PAST WESTFIELD LATE

WESTFIELD — Brocton waited until the top of the seventh inning to get past Westfield in Division 2 action, plating three runs in its final trip to the plate to claim a 4-1 victory.

Austin McIntyre pushed the Bulldogs over going 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs, giving Aiden Gatto the win on the mound.

Grant Gustafson started the game for Brocton (1-1, 1-1) and threw the first four innings in which he gave up just three hits, one run and struck out five. Gatto finished the final three innings and gave up two hits while striking out four.

Trent Ramm provided the lone run for the Wolverines as he went 1 for 1 connecting on a home run. Danny Bratton pitched six innings and struck out 11 for Westfield (0-1, 0-1).

ELLICOTTVILLE ROLLS SILVER CREEK

SILVER CREEK — Emmett Jacobson-Coolidge went 2 for 4 with a triple and 4 RBIs as Ellicottville rolled Silver Creek 16-4 in Division 3 action.

Hunter Smith added another 3 RBIs for the Eagles and scored three times, Owen Chudy went 1 for 2 with a double and three runs scored, while Cameron Mendell, Parker John and R Benjamin scored two runs each.

Silver Creek had just one hit coming off the bat of Dom Anders for the lone RBI.

Mendell pitched all five innings to earn the win for Ellicottville, striking out six, walking five and giving up just one earned run on one hit.

Silver Creek had three pitchers come into the game with both Thomas Hogg and Caleb Kimmerly striking out five, Hogg started the game and took the loss.

ROSS SILENCES DUNKIRK

DUNKIRK — Jaxson Ross threw a complete-game three-hitter with 14 strikeouts and one walk as Salamanca shut out Dunkirk 2-0 in Division 1 play.

The Warriors scored both of their runs in the fourth inning. Corey Holleran walked to open the frame and went to second when Ross was hit by a pitch. After a wild pitch moved both runners up, Payton Bradley hit an RBI groundout and Cole Urbanski hit an RBI single to center field.

That was plenty of support for Ross, who allowed two hits to Anthony Piede — one a double — and a single to Zach Zentz.

“Jaxson Ross was a dominant force,” Dunkirk head coach Frank Jagoda said. “He got ahead and had the ability to reach back when needed.”

Anthony Cosme and Thomas Shaffer combined on a two-hitter with five strikeouts and three walks for the Marauders.

“We had one opportunity all day and didn’t execute,” Jagoda said. “Close games such as these are a matter of taking your opportunities and capitalizing on them. A well-deserved win for them.”

Cam McGraw’s double was Salamanca’s only other hit.

HEWES SHINES FOR EAGLES

MAYVILLE — Sophomore Devin Hewes threw a complete-game four-hitter with eight strikeouts as Chautauqua Lake trimmed Maple Grove 4-1 in Division 2 play.

The Red Dragons (3-2, 1-1) got their lone run in the top of the first inning when Cam Lombardo singled and later scored.

The Eagles (1-2, 1-0) responded with two runs in their half of the frame. Hewes walked with one out and stole second before Nate Henry’s RBI double tied the game. Henry then stole third and scored on Nolan Olson’s sacrifice fly.

In the Chautauqua Lake half of the fourth inning, Henry walked, stole second and went to third on a groundout before scoring on a Clayton Smith RBI single.

Hewes scored the final run in the sixth when he walked and courtesy runner Michael Jauss went to third on an errant pickoff throw. Olson then hit a one-out RBI single.

Kyle Yohe had two hits for Maple Grove. Jake Reinart threw into the fourth inning, striking out two and walking one. Kolden McCall finished the game and struck out five while walking one.

KARTESZ GOES YARD AGAIN

LAKEWOOD — Chase Kartesz homered for the second straight day and Southwestern beat Allegany-Limestone 11-4 in Division 1 action at Packard Field.

Judd Harris earned the win on the mound, throwing five innings of seven-hit ball while striking out six. Just one of the four runs he allowed was earned.

Robbie Bellardo went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and Harris had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Peter Conley drove in two runs and Kartesz drove in three on his home run for the Trojans (5-0, 2-0).

Sean Conroy had two hits for the Gators (3-4, 0-2) and Vinny LaBella doubled.

JAMESTOWN LOSES PITCHER’S DUEL

JAMESTOWN — Jamestown received a strong pitching performance, but Williamsville North’s was just a little bit better in their Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 game at Martin Road Sports Complex.

Matt Kasprowicz threw a two-hitter and struck out 10 to lead the Spartans to a 2-0 victory. The Spartans scored a run in the first inning and one in the second against Red & Green starter Antonie Rodriguez, who worked six innings, struck out four and walked one. Owen Glover finished up.

Caleb Piazza and Chase Bonta had a single apiece for Jamestown (1-4, 0-2).
