Bears Use Big 2nd Inning To Get Past Salamanca 8-5

SALAMANCA — Frewsburg went up 6-1 with a four-run second inning and held on to beat nonleague Salamanca 8-5 in softball action Tuesday.

Mackenzie Martin, Teghan Trocki, Skylar Waid and Braelyn Stelmack all singled and scored during the second-inning outburst for the Bears (1-0).

Stelmack finished with three hits, including a triple, while Trocki had two hits, including a double, for the winners. Waid also had two singles.

Trocki threw the first four innings in the circle and Teagan Nazario threw the final three innings. The pair combined for 12 strikeouts and two walks.

The Warriors (0-1) loaded the bases in the seventh inning, but a strikeout, a fielder’s choice and a groundout ended the game.

Kenzie Crouse singled and scored twice, while Jaelynne Brown doubled for Salamanca.

COUGARS DOWN BROCTON

BROCTON — Cassadaga Valley scored eight runs in the fourth inning to take a 13-3 lead en route to a 19-11 nonleague victory over Brocton.

Andrea Johnson had a pair of singles and also struck out four in the circle for the Cougars (1-0).

Joleena Doner was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and Zoe Spiller went 2 for 4 with a double for the Bulldogs (0-1).

EAGLES SOAR PAST PANTHERS

NORTH COLLINS — Cate Ayers pitched a strong game in the circle for North Collins, but it was not needed as the Eagles outscored Pine Valley 11-5 in nonleague action.

Ayers earned the win giving up just two hits, walking eight, giving up five runs while striking out nine batters.

North Collins (1-0) played small ball only hitting 11 singles, but managed the 11 runs with three coming from Isabelle Contro going 2 for 2, Jaylee Jimerson also went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs and Lily Montaldi scored once going 2 for 3.

Danica Farnham and Danielle West had the only hits for Pine Valley (0-1) with both hitting a triple. Farnham took the loss in the circle with nine strikeouts, nine walks, 11 runs scored and eight earned.

WEISKERGER SHINES FOR BLACK KNIGHTS

WEST ELLICOTT — Rylee Weiskerger had four hits, including a double and a triple, and four RBIs to power Silver Creek past Southwestern 10-4 in nonleague softball Tuesday.

Weiskerger also threw five innings in the circle and struck out seven for the Black Knights.

Makayla Kelly, Maddie Blair and Kyla Ziegler each had multiple hits in Silver Creek’s 15-hit attack.

Eliana Barone and Alexis Beckerink each had an RBI for the Trojans.
