Jackals Lose 131-129 At Reading

READING, Pa. — The Jamestown Jackals missed a shot inside in the final seconds as the Reading Rebels escaped with a 131-129 victory in The Basketball league on Sunday at Alvernia University.

The Rebels (3-2) led 100-97 entering the fourth quarter, but the Jackals (2-3) actually took a 108-106 lead with 9:51 remaining on Derrick Colter’s three-point play.

Reading’s Quadir Welton then put down a dunk with 9:17 left to tie the game and the Rebels’ Travaun Coad made a layup with 8:24 left to give the hosts a 110-108 lead.

They would never trail again and with 1:05 remaining, Reading’s lead grew to as many as eight, 129-121.

The Jackals’ David Jasson made a layup with 53 seconds left and Colter picked up a steal with 23 seconds left before Joshua Dominguez hit a 3-pointer to make it 129-126.

After a Coad free throw, Jasson nailed a 3-pointer to make it 130-129 with 6 seconds remaining.

Wali Hepburn tacked on a free throw for the Rebels with 4 seconds left and Colter missed just before the buzzer as Reading held on.

Aquille Carr led the Rebels with 37 points, while Welton added 25 points and 16 rebounds. Hepburn chipped in 19 points, Anthony Lee had 15 and Coad had 11.

Colter paced the Jackals with 36 points and nine assists; Jasson had 32 points and eight rebounds; and Dominguez had 28 points.

Jamestown will host the Rhode Island Kraken on Friday and Saturday at Jamestown Community College’s Physical Education Complex.
