Tourney Raises $1,000 For Cancer Center

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood YMCA’s annual Snowflake Pickleball Tournament was held on the weekend of Jan. 28-29.

The two-day tournament hosted 90 players and six divisions.

On Saturday, in 3.0 and under, Coed Doubles, taking gold were Mary and Mike DaCanal. Venilda Barringer and Lori Nellis took silver followed by Debbie and Tim Hall placing bronze.

Jane Brueckl and Michaelle Alonge took gold for the Women’s 3.5 Doubles, followed by Lynda Benton and Ann Hariis placing silver. Amy Mckeown and Christal Rosel took bronze.

Later that afternoon, taking gold were Derek Brandle and Tyler Witt for the Men’s 3.5 Doubles. They were followed by Aaron Saxton and Chris Wanderling, who took silver, and Talin Mosher and Rob Johnson, who placed bronze.

The night ended smoothly with 3.5 Mixed Doubles. Jane Brueckl and Brian Altamirano took gold, followed by Christal Rosel and Broderick Wright taking silver, and Venilda Barringer and Dylan Scriven placing bronze.

The tournament finished Sunday evening with the 4.0 Mixed Doubles. Michele Ognibene and Phill Gernovich took gold followed by Marlene Sandberg and Donald Mosher placing silver and Liza Say and Will Craddock placing bronze.

Sunday morning, Andre Francis and Anthony Wozniak took gold in the Men’s 4.0. They were followed by Phillip Gernovich and Donald Mosher taking silver, and Will Craddock and Daryl Vogan placing bronze.

Sponsors included: Kingsview Paving, Hope’s Windows, Weber Knapp and Fessenden Laumer & DeAngelo, PLLC.

The tournament donates a portion of its proceeds to The Chautauqua UPMC Hillman Cancer Center through the WCA Foundation. This year, $1,000 was once again donated to the cancer center.
