Randolph Splits CCAA D1 East Title

PORTVILLE — Randolph clinched a share of its fourth straight league title with a 47-43 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 East girls basketball victory over Portville on Thursday.

The hosts led 43-41 with 50 seconds remaining before the Cardinals’ Quinn Pence grabbed a steal and scored on a layup to tie the game. After a stop at the other end, Randolph’s Zoey Dickerson gave her team the lead on a layup with 7 seconds remaining. The Panthers then advanced the ball after a timeout, but Skylar Herington stole the inbounds pass and converted a layup to end the game.

Pence led the Cardinals (14-6, 9-1) with 20 points to go along with six steals and three assists, while Skylar Herington had 15 points and nine steals. Zoey Dickerson grabbed six rebounds.

Randolph gave itself an opportunity to share the league title with a 59-51 win over Frewsburg on Monday.

Lillian Bentley led the Panthers (13-6, 5-5) with 18 points, 18 rebounds and three blocked shots; Jackie Scanlon had 14 points and six rebounds; Ava Haynes had 8 points and six rebounds; and Emma Rhinehart handed out four assists.
