No. 16 Brocton Upsets No. 9 Holland In Class C First Round

HOLLAND — No. 16 Brocton went on the road and pulled off an upset.

Michael Garcia scored 27 points, including going 6 for 9 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, as No. 16 Brocton beat No. 9 Holland 62-59 in a Section VI Class C boys first-round game Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs will have another long bus ride ahead of them Thursday when they travel to No. 8 Barker for a prequarterfinal matchup.

The Dutchmen, playing without leading scorer Brady Wiskup, led 25-23 at halftime Tuesday before the Bulldogs took the lead with a 20-12 third quarter.

Anthony Gatto chipped in 12 points and Jeremy Weisner had 8 for Brocton.

WARRIOR HAS CAREER NIGHT

GOWANDA — Sophomore Trelin Warrior poured in a career-high 30 points as No. 12 Gowanda topped No. 13 Cattaraugus-Little Valley 69-39 in a Class C first-round game.

Quentin Centner added 19 points for the Panthers, who led 16-15 after the first quarter before a 33-5 second quarter.

Grady Merrill led the Timberwolves with 13 points.

Gowanda will travel to No. 5 Panama for a Thursday prequarterfinal.

EAGLES RALLY TO WIN

MAYVILLE — Trent Houser came off the bench to convert a pair of three-point plays and Nick Jacobson hit a big 3-pointer during a 17-12 third quarter as No. 11 Chautauqua Lake took control en route to a 55-44 Class C first-round victory over No. 14 Global Concepts.

Jacobson finished with a game-high 15 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds, while Houser had 13 points and four rebounds for the Eagles, who will travel to No. 6 Ellicottville for a prequarterfinal Thursday.

“It was a good feeling to get a win and get some momentum going into the next playoff game,” Chautauqua Lake head coach Devin Pope said. “In the first round, you never know what’s going to happen, especially against a Buffalo school you don’t know a lot about.”

Nate Henry chipped in 11 points and six rebounds, while Brendan Klossner had eight rebounds for Chautauqua Lake.

Kobe Torres led the Gators with 11 points.

TROJANS’ SEASON ENDS

BUFFALO — Sam Arrington scored 26 points, but just three other Southwestern players found the scorebook as the 13th-seeded Trojans lost to No. 12 Bennett 61-46.

Southwestern ends its season with a 5-16 record.

Bennett will travel to No. 5 East Aurora on Thursday.
