Lakewood YMCA Plays Host To Super Bowl Sizzler

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood YMCA hosted the Super Bowl Sizzler tennis tournament this past weekend.

The Rising Stars Junior Singles Division kicked things off Thursday afternoon. The top four seeds out of round-robin play were Nikil Dezenthira, Grayson Jewell, Andy Dollard and Bentley Huber.

In the semifinals, Dezenthira defeated Huber 3-0 and Jewell bested Dollard 3-0. Dezenthira claimed the championship by edging Jewell 3-1.

The High School Boys Singles Division followed with Charbel Moubarak defeating Jack Lynds 6-1, 6-1 in a play-in match. In the quarterfinals, Brayden Haaksma defeated Cayden Maguire 4-0, 4-0; Moubarak beat Tobiah Reinard 4-0, 4-0; Adam Strandburg defeated Chase Haaksma 2-4, 4-1, 7-3; and Jack Sherry beat Finn Johnson 4-2, 4-3.

In the semifinals, Brayden Haaksma beat Moubarak 4-1, 3-4, 9-7 and Strandburg beat Sherry 4-1, 4-2. Brayden Haaksma then topped Strandburg 4-2, 4-0 in the final.

The third-place match went to Moubarak in consolation bracket No. 1 went to Moubarak, 4-0, 4-0 over Sherry. Reinard topped Maguire 4-0, 4-0 and Chase Haaksma topped Johnson 1-4, 4-2, 7-0 in the semifinals of consolation bracket No. 2. In the consolation final, Chase Haaksma beat Reinard 4-3, 4-3. In consolation bracket No. 3, Johnson topped Maguire 4-0, 4-0.

In the High School Girls Singles Division prequarterfinals, Madison McDunn beat Emmy Kemick 6-4, 6-4; Myla Brainard topped Alannah Garza 6-3, 6-4; Lucy Harrison beat Courtney Leonard 6-2, 6-1; and Grace Carr beat Ella Card 6-3, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, Harrison beat Brainard 6-0, 6-3; Mary Gerace topped McDunn 6-0, 6-0; Iris Kiehl beat Izzy Heacox 6-1, 6-1 and Carr topped Mary Jane Moubarak 4-6, 6-0, 10-6.

Harrison topped Gerace 6-3, 6-4 and Kiehl beat Carr 7-6 (4) and 7-6 (5) in the semifinals before Kiehl won the title 4-6, 7-6 (4) and 10-7 over Harrison.

In the High School Coed Doubles quarterfinals Kiehl and Gerace beat McDunn and Card 4-0, 4-0; Strandburg and Reinard beat Benjamin Scott and Collin Ellis 4-2, 4-0; Harrison and Heacox beat Leonard and Jayoung Kim 4-0, 4-1; and Riley Farrugello and Carr beat Grace Kutschke and Erika Pickard 4-3, 4-0.

Gerace and Kiehl beat Strandburg and Reinard 4-1, 4-1, while Harrison and Heacox topped Farrugello and Carr 4-1, 4-1 in the semifinals. Heacox and Harrison won the title 4-2, 1-4, 9-7 over Gerace and Kiehl.

In the third-place match of consolation bracket No. 1, Strandburg and Reinard beat Farrugello and Carr 0-4, 4-2, 7-4. In the semifinals of consolation bracket No. 2, Card and McDunn beat Scott and Ellis 4-2, 4-3, while Leonard and Kim beat Kutschke and Pickard 4-2, 1-4, 13-11. In the final of consolation bracket No. 2, Card and McDunn beat Leonard and Kim 3-4, 4-3, 10-6. In consolation bracket No. 3, Scott and Ellis beat Kutschke and Pickard 4-1, 4-3.
