Hamburg Defeats Jamestown In Close One

Hamburg edged Jamestown 40-37 in a nonleague girls basketball game at McElrath Gymnasium on Friday night.

Three players — Ava Smith, Daisy Strack and Leah Khuu — each scored 9 points for the Bulldogs, who led 22-18 at halftime and 35-30 after three quarters.

Leading the way for the Red & Green was Alyson Canfield, who scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Teammate Anna Engquist chipped in 6 points and a game-high 15 boards.

Jamestown, which connected on 20 of 35 free throws, is now 4-14 on the season while Hamburg improves to 9-11.

BEAVER NETS 36 IN LOSS

CLARENCE — Reece Beaver scored 36 points, but it wasn’t enough for Southwestern, which lost to Clarence 74-64 in the nonleague regular-season finale for both teams.

Bella Sirianni added 14 points, five assists and four rebounds; Maddie McIntyre had nine rebounds; and Beaver had six assists and four rebounds for the Trojans (13-7).

The Red Devils (16-4) led 33-22 at halftime and 56-48 after three quarters.

Ella Corry led the hosts with 29 points, Allison Glaude had 21 and Lia Meichenbaum scored 13.

ANDERSON WINS IT AT BUZZER

ELLICOTTVILLE — Emiley Anderson hit a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer as Cassadaga Valley beat nonleague Ellicottville 45-42.

Anderson led the Cougars (12-8) with 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists to go along with three steals. Andrea Johnson had 13 points, six steals and six rebounds in the win.

The Eagles finished the regular season 12-8 overall.

PINE VALLEY ROLLS TO WIN

NORTH COLLINS — Pine Valley jumped out to a 26-4 lead by halftime and cruised to a 43-18 victory over North Collins in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Associaiton Division 2 East game.

Danielle West led the Panthers (12-8, 9-1) with 17 points.

Cate Ayers paced North Collins (8-11, 3-7) with 7 points.
