Brink Eclipses 1,000 Points For Panama

SOUTH DAYTON -- Panama junior Carter Brink came into Thursday's nonleague boys basketball game against Pine Valley with 991 points in his career. Looking to avoid any pressure of waiting until the postseason to hit 1,000 points, Brink wasted no time, reaching the mark in the first quarter of Panama's 76-38 rout of Pine Valley.
"He started off quick," Panama head coach Ed Nelson said of Brink. "He ended up scoring nine points in the first quarter. He reached it on a free throw and his sister was able to see it, coming down from SUNY Brockport where she plays. Mandy scored her 1,000th point on the exact same day two years ago."
Brink finished the game with 21 points, now sitting at 1,012 career points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists.
"It was nice for him," Nelson added about Brink's journey to 1,000 points. "A little over halfway through the year last season he got injured. He bounced back. It's a nice addition to our team, having almost another 30 points back to our team."
Panama also received 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists from Bryce Hinsdale. Andrew Spiesman collected seven boards and had two blocks; Tate Catanese added six boards, three assists and four steals; and Alex Barmore had three steals and a block.
Pine Valley was led by Miles Volk with 11 points.

ELLICOTTVILLE -- Owen Chudy had 21 points and 11 rebounds as Ellicottville beat nonleague Cassadaga Valley 67-59.
A slow 9-6 first quarter in favor of the Eagles (14-6) exploded into a 41-27 halftime lead for the hosts.
Carter Smith added 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Parker John had 10 points in the win.
Ace Pierce led the Cougars (2-17) with 25 points and Hunter Johnson added 24.

Roger Markham added another 11 points for the Golden Falcons (11-9).
Sherman (6-14) was led by Daniel Meeder with 16 points, Jacob Ferranto collected six rebounds and made three assists, and Carson Pinzok added eight boards.

WARRIORS FALL
SALAMANCA -- Frontier's 19-9 fourth quarter sent it to a 53-45 nonleague victory over Salamanca.
The difference, according to Warriors coach Adam Bennett, was rebounding.
Leading a balanced Falcons' attack was Nate Errington with 14 points.
Lucus Brown paced Salamanca (15-5), which led 36-34 after three quarters, with 18 points and Jaxson Ross added 15.

WHITE STARS FOR FREDONIA
YOUNGSTOWN -- Davion White had a double-double with 26 points, 18 rebounds and two assists to lead Fredonia past Lewiston-Porter 57-48 in nonleague boys basketball action to wrap up the regular season.
Mike Hahn had a big game for Fredonia (14-6) with 19 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists. Malachi Hall reeled in nine boards and made a block, while Ashton Putney grabbed five boards and dealt out four assists, Jameson Quinn added six boards.
Lewiston-Porter finishes the regular season with a 6-14 record.
