Trojans Rally For Win In MLK Day CCAA Showcase

Sam Arrington scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the second half to rally Southwestern past Chautauqua Lake 58-49 in the MLK Day Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association boys basketball showcase on Monday at Jamestown Community College.

The Trojans (3-7, 0-3 CCAA D1 West) limited Chautauqua Lake to just one field goal in the fourth quarter as they completed the comeback. Southwestern also received 7 points each from Connor Young, Brody Larson and Jaydon Work.

The Eagles (4-6, 2-2 CCAA D2 West) were led by Nick Jacobson with 20 points and Nate Henry added 15.

FREDONIA EDGES FREWSBURG

Fredonia received another group effort as four players reached double-digit scoring to down Frewsburg 67-50 in the MLK Day Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association boys basketball showcase on Monday at Jamestown Community College.

Mike Hahn led the Fredonia (9-3, 3-0 CCAA D1 West) with 16 points and seven rebounds; Davion White scored 13 points, grabbed eight boards, dished four assists, made two steals and two blocks; Luca Gullo scored 10 points and made eight assists, and RJ Koopman potted 10 points with seven assists.

Frewsburg (4-6, 2-1 CCAA D1 East) was led again by Gavin Smith with a game-high 24 points, five rebounds and two blocks, while Kael Collver had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds along with a block.

EAGLES HOLD OFF PIRATES

Owen Chudy had a 20 points, 10 rebound and five steal double-double to lead Ellicottville past Clymer 35-33 in the MLK Day CCAA Showcase at JCC.

Blake Smith added five steals and Carter Smith grabbed seven boards and dished four assists for Ellicottville (6-3, 3-0 CCAA D2 East).

Clymer (4-7, 2-3 CCAA D2 West) was led by Jonathan Massing with 11 points, eight rebounds, three steals and a block, while Kaden Beckerink scored 10 points, hauled in seven rebounds, made four assists and grabbed three steals.

CORTES LEADS BLACK KNIGHTS

Ray Cortes scored 23 points, grabbed nine rebounds, made three steals and three blocks as Silver Creek held off Sherman 50-40 in the MLK Day CCAA Showcase at JCC.

Jose Pratts collected 10 rebounds and Simon White had five steals for Silver Creek (6-4, 1-3 CCAA D1 East) in the win.

Sherman (2-8, 0-5 CCAA D2 West) was led by Jacob Ferranto with 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocks, Troy Chambers collected six boards and two steals, Daniel Meeder dished three assists and Andrew Beatman had three steals.

HOT START PROPELS PANAMA TO WIN

A 45-point first half by Panama was too much for Pine Valley to overcome as Panama cruised to a 65-49 victory in the MLK Day CCAA Showcase at JCC.

Carter Brink paced Panama (8-1, 3-1 CCAA D2 West) with 25 points, six assists and six steals. Tate Catanese added 13 points and seven boards, Alex Barmore scored 10 points, reeled in nine rebounds, made two steals and a block, and Bryce Hinsdale dished five assists and had five steals.

Jon Sheldon led the Pine Valley (4-5, 3-1 CCAA D2 East) effort with 19 points.

PINE VALLEY (49)
