Smith Drops 34 As Bears Edge Falconer

FALCONER — Gavin Smith hit his most important free throws at the end of Thursday’s Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 East game for Frewsburg against Falconer.

Hitting one of his final two shots, Smith extended the Bears’ lead to 67-64, forcing the Golden Falcons to look beyond the arc in their final possession.

Falconer was able to get off not one, but two shots in an attempt to tie the game, however they would not fall as Frewsburg secured a 67-64 victory.

Gavin Smith finished with a game-high 33 points, scoring 17 in the fourth quarter alone, and he hauled in six rebounds. Kael Collver added 10 points, seven boards and six blocks, while Chase Haglund dished four assists and made four steals for the Bears (6-6, 4-1).

Falconer (6-6, 2-4) was led by Roger Markham with 27 points and Mathis Baehr scored 19 with seven rebounds.

EARLY LEAD ENOUGH FOR PIRATES

CLYMER — Clymer built a 26-9 lead at halftime, which was too much to overcome for Brocton as the Pirates cruised to a 45-36 victory in Division 2 West play.

Kaden Beckerink paced the Pirates (5-7, 3-3) with 20 points and six rebounds, while Jonathan Massing hauled in 10 rebounds with two steals and a block.

Brocton (5-7, 1-4) was led by Michael Garcia with 19 points.

TROJANS RALLY FOR WIN

ALLEGANY — Southwestern outscored Allegany-Limestone 15-6 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 57-50 victory in Division 1 West game.

Leading the way for the Trojans (4-7, 1-3) was Sam Arrington, who scored 20 points, and collected three assists and a pair of steals. Connor Young added 11 points and Declan Kennedy chipped in 10 points.

The Gators (0-4, 5-9), who led 33-28 at halftime and 44-42 after three quarters, were paced by Carson Kwiatkowski with 18 points.

PINE VALLEY ROLLS TIMBERWOLVES

CATTARAUGUS — Jon Sheldon poured in 24 points with six 3-pointers as Pine Valley knocked off Cattaraugus-Little Valley 62-31 in Division 2 East action.

Miles Volk added 11 points for the Panthers (5-5, 4-1), while both Trent Ivett and Nick Seabolt scored 9.

Cattaraugus-Little Valley falls to 2-9 overall and 2-4 in league.

ORCUTT COMES THROUGH

OLEAN — Greg Orcutt scored 9 of his game-high 20 points during the second overtime as Dunkirk outlasted Olean 64-61 in Division 1 West play.

The teams were tied 45-all at the end of regulation and 51-all at the end of the first overtime before Orcutt took over in the final period.

The Huskies (4-7, 2-2) led 15-7 after the first quarter and 26-21 at halftime, but it could’ve been worse if not for Orcutt hitting a corner 3-pointer in the final seconds of the second quarter.

K’Vion Tell added 19 points for the Marauders (3-5, 2-2).

Joe Mest led Olean with 14 points, Isaiah Smith had 13 and Sullivan Hoffman had 10.

DUNKIRK (64)
