Southwestern reversed recent history Tuesday night.
The Trojans strung together five straight victories in the middle of their match and beat Falconer/Cassadaga Valley 38-33 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 wrestling action at Southwestern Central School.
It had been 14 years since Southwestern beat Falconer. The last time it happened, 42-25 in 2010, names like Brett Swan, Chris VanSickle, Evan Watson, Cody Fuller, Riley Sheldon, Dan Petruccello, John Mistretta and Pat Langworthy were winners for the Trojans. Mark Hetrick was the head coach that night and Johnny Vogan, now Southwestern’s head coach, was an assistant.
The Golden Cougars won the first three bouts Wednesday and led 15-0 prior to the 170-pound matchup.
Southwestern’s Peter Conley earned a 12-4 major decision over Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Javonte Hackett there to put the Trojans on the board.

“The biggest match of the night was Peter getting a major decision,” Vogan said. “That was a 50-50 swing match that went our way.”
Neves Hoose followed with a 50-second pin and Tavio Hoose earned a forfeit before Brayden Potter picked up a pin in 1:01 at 285 pounds for Southwestern.
Adrian Torres’s pin in 1:55 at 101 pounds gave the Trojans five straight wins and a 28-15 lead.
Evan Newman (108 pounds) and Dylan Newman (116 pounds) earned back-to-back pins for Falconer/Cassadaga Valley to make it 28-27.
But Southwestern’s Kenji Walters (124 pounds) and Carmine Calimeri (131 pounds), returning New York State Public High School Athletic Association representatives, earned the next 10 points to put the match away.
