Randolph Beats Portville, Improves To 13-0 Overall

RANDOLPH — Kevin McElwain had 23 points and four steals as Randolph coasted past Portville 72-26 in Division 1 East.

Drew Hind had 14 points, five assists and three steals, while Broden Brooks chipped in 14 points for the Cardinals (13-0, 7-0), who led 42-10 at halftime.

The Panthers fell to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in the league.

CLYMER — Westfield trailed 29-23 at halftime before outscoring Clymer 20-3 in the third quarter to rally for a 56-40 Division 2 West victory.

Carson Swanson led the Wolverines (14-1, 8-0) with 35 points and six assists to go along with three rebounds and three steals. Aaron Fuller added 9 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.

Carson White and Kaden Beckerink scored 16 points apiece for the Pirates (6-9, 4-4). Jonathan Massing grabbed nine rebounds to go along with a team-high three assists and two steals.

FORESTVILLE — Owen Chudy had career highs with 33 points and 19 rebounds to lead Ellicottville past Forestville 69-51 in Division 2 East play.

Chudy scored 13 points during a 29-12 first quarter in favor of the Eagles (9-4, 6-1).

William Benatovich finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds; Chris Calarco had eight rebounds and seven assists; and Carter Smith had six assists for Ellicottville.

Ethan Ecker led the Hornets (1-11, 1-6) with 12 points, Jackson Rebmann had 10 points and Blake Waterman had eight rebounds.

HINSDALE GETS HOT

FREWSBURG — Bryce Hinsdale scored 23 of his career-high 31 points in the second half as Panama beat nonleague Frewsburg 69-58.

The Panthers (10-2, 4-2 CCAA D2 West) led 52-51 entering the final eight minutes before the Bears (7-7, 6-1) went 1 for 14 from the field and scored just seven points.

“Our key was to limit Carter (Brink) and take all of his touches away. We tried to rotate over to the next guy,” Frewsburg head coach Rob Collver said. “We kept losing (Bryce) in the second half. They did a nice job running him off of off-ball screens. He got loose a couple of times.”

Brink chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds, while Tate Catanese grabbed 13 rebounds for Panama.

Gavin Smith led the Bears with 26 points and four steals to go along with seven rebounds. Kael Collver had 9 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots; Blake Weaver had 10 points; and Garrett Brink had four assists.

HOLD OFF GOWANDA

SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek boys basketball team saw a 19-point lead dwindle into the single digits in the fourth quarter against rival Gowanda on Thursday. The Black Knights responded to the late push by the Panthers and finished strong as both Ray Cortes and Jose Pratts posted double-doubles en route to a 82-67 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 East victory.

Cortes’ double-double highlighted the Black Knights’ (7-5, 2-4) evening with 27 points, 13 rebounds, six blocks, three assists and three steals. Simon White added 23 points, three steals and two assists and Pratts’ double-double had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Gowanda (7-6, 3-4) was paced by Trelin Warrior with 22 points, Blake Herman scored 15 and Quentin Centner had 14.
