Five Area Athletes Finish First At Houghton
HOUGHTON — Five area athletes claimed first-place finishes at the Section VI ninth and 10th grade indoor track & field championships at Houghton University on Saturday.
Those reaching the top of the podium were Callie Draggett of Fredonia in the shot put (29-0.5); Jesse Hill of Salamanca in the 600 meters (1:29.11); the Falconer boys 4800-meter relay (9:22.95); Ethan Verbosky of Falconer in the 3,200 meters (10:32.14); and Javiana Matos of Jamestown in the weight throw (39-0.25).
Second-place finishes were recorded by Evan Spruce of Salamanca in the shot put (36-4.5); Owen Erlandson of Falconer in the 1,000 meters (3:05.03); Sopheia Nelson-Bennett of Falconer in the 1,500-meter race walk (9:25.5); the Falconer girls 4×800-meter relay 11:47.13); and London Hamilton of Jamestown in the 1,500 meters (5:11.79).
Finally, capturing third places were Wyatt Olmsted of Jamestown (tie) in the 1,000 meters (3:05.03); Sam Bowers of Dunkirk in the 600 meters (1:36.37); the Dunkirk girls 4×800-meter relay (tie, 11:47.78); and Clevon Wofford of Jamestown in the 1,600 meters (5:02.45).
