C/S/P’s Catanese, Hinsdale, Ryan Honored With League Awards

Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s undefeated Class D league season and run through the Section VI playoffs has earned the Wolfpack plenty of recognition on the league’s postseason all-star team.
Junior quarterback Tate Catanese, junior wide receiver Bryce Hinsdale, junior linebacker Collin Ryan and head coach Ty Harper have all been honored with postseason awards.
Catanese was named the league’s Player of the Year after going 137 of 212 through the air for 1,760 yards and 25 touchdowns against just six interceptions. Catanese also ran for 617 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Hinsdale was named one of the league’s co-Offensive Players of the Year after catching 58 passes for 562 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He racked up 847 all-purpose yards and totaled 134 points when adding his point-after kicks and field goals. Hinsdale also averaged 37.7 yards per punt and became Section VI’s all-time receptions leader with another year of high school yet to come.

Ryan was named one of the league’s co-Defensive Players of the Year. He was in on 100 tackles, including 60 of the solo variety, to go along with three touchdowns. He returned two interceptions for touchdowns, forced two fumbles, recovered three fumbles and added a sack.
Harper was named the league’s Coach of the Year as Clymer/Sherman/Panama went 11-1 on the season. The Wolfpack beat Wilson 38-12 in the Section VI Class D title game and then topped Canisteo-Greenwood 50-16 in the Far West Regionals before losing to Tioga in the state semifinals.
Franklinville/Ellicottville senior Hunter Smith was also named a co-Defensive Player of the Year after being in on 31 tackles, including 22 of the solo variety. Smith had two tackles for a loss and one interception for the Titans.
Smith’s senior teammate Isaiah Ploetz was named the league’s Lineman of the Year.
Wilson senior running back Jack Mahar joined Hinsdale as a co-Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for a school-record 1,691 yards to go along with 24 touchdowns. Mahar also caught 13 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns.

Gowanda/Pine Valley earned the Team Sportsmanship Award with sophomore quarterback Carter Capozzi the Individual Sportsmanship Award winner.
The league’s All-Academic Team was made up of Cattaraugus-Little Valley sophomore Grady Merrill, Clymer/Sherman/Panama senior Dan Meeder, Franklinville/Ellicottville junior Ethan Allen, Gowanda/Pine Valley senior Aiden Ackley, Randolph senior Ethan Johnson and Wilson senior Brayden Lepsch.
In addition to Catanese and Hinsdale, Clymer/Sherman/Panama players recognized on the First-Team Offense included senior running back Bryce Posker (703 yards, eight TDs), senior lineman Grant Lictus and junior tight end Alex Barmore (18 catches, 369 yards, five TDs).
Defensively, in addition to Ryan, the Wolfpack had senior Devin Johnson (32 tackles, three sacks), senior John Watson (69 tackles, 12 TFLs) and junior Dalton Richter (47 tackles, three INTs) honored on the First Team.
Smith (1,021 yards, 10 TDs) was named to the First-Team Offense for second-place Franklinville/Ellicottville, where he was joined by Ploetz. Defensively, Titans honored on the First Team included: senior Owen Chudy (36 tackles, three TFLs), junior Isaac Towne (18 tackles, one INT) and senior Noah Shenk (24 tackles, one INT).

Third-place Wilson, in addition to Mahar, had junior linemen Hamza Merrick and Michael Jeffords on the First Team. Defensively, sophomore linebacker Brock Lepsch (75 tackles, one INT, one sack) and senior linebacker Ethan Lackner (53 tackles, three sacks) were named to the First Team.
Gowanda/Pine Valley’s standout connection of Capozzi and senior wide receiver Quentin Centner represented the Panthers on the First Team. Capozzi threw for 1,934 yards and 24 touchdowns with Centner catching 43 passes for 794 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Randolph senior fullback Maverick Adams (549 yards, eight TDs) represented the Cardinals on the First-Team Offense. Defensively, junior linebacker Connor Braley (51 tackles) and senior safety Tristan Farnham (18 tackles, one INT) made the First Team.
Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s lone First-Team representative was senior cornerback Matt Benzel.
