JCC Swimming & Diving Gets Off To Strong Start
ROCHESTER — It was a near-perfect start to the 2023-24 swimming and diving season for the Jamestown Community College women’s team. The ladies took home first place in the Monroe Invite with a score of 402, nearly a 300-point win over second place Erie Community College last weekend.
Freshman Ashlynn Swan (Jamestown, NY / Southwestern Central School) entered her first event as a member of the Jayhawks and set new program records in one-meter (six dives) and three-meter (six dives). The Southwestern Central School product won the women’s one-meter diving (11 dives), women’s one-meter diving (6 dives), and women’s three-meter diving (six dives).
The Jayhawks’ 200-yard medley relay team of Madison Kramer (Falconer, NY / Falconer HS), Lindsey Spitz (Jamestown, NY / Jamestown HS), Paiden Wittmeyer (Stockton, NY / Cassadaga Valley Central), and Stacey Blackler (Edenvale, Gauteng, South Africa / Edanvale HS) captured first with a time of 2:08:15. In another relay, the 800-yard freestyle, Jamestown CC’s quartet of Fosberg, Spitz, Swan, and Blacker captured gold with a 10:09:06.
Ella Fosberg (Jamestown, NY / Southwestern Central School) took home first in the 1,650-yard free with a time of 22:19:44.
Blackler came home second in the 200-yard free with a time of 2:29:41.
Jamestown claimed the top two spots in the 100-yard individual medley, Kramer earned the victory at 1:07:73, with Wittmeyer finishing in 1:14:83.
It was another sweep of first and second in the 200-yard individual medley. Spitz’s 2:45:10 brought home the win, and Blackler was her closest competitor, finishing in 2:49:42.
In the 50-yard butterfly, the Jayhawks again claimed first and second as Wittmeyer swam a 31.66 and Fosberg 33.81.
In the 100-yard butterfly, it was Kramer with another top showing, finishing in 1:06:34.
Jamestown CC swept the top two of the 100-yard freestyle as well, with Fosberg swimming a 1:06:51 and Wittmeyer a 1:06:55.
The 100-yard backstroke went to Kramer, who earned top billing at 1:06:23.
Spitz claimed another win in the 500-yard free, clocking a 6:43:99.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Spitz was again top dog with a 1:22:51.
Finally, it was Blacker coming home second in the 50-yard breaststroke at 41.01, just over a second off the championship pace.

JOHNSON SETS RECORD
ROCHESTER — It was a record-breaking day for Maxim Johnson (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa / King Edward VII School) as he helped Jamestown Community College to a third-place finish at the Monroe Invite over the weekend.
The Jayhawks finished with 256 points, just behind second-place Erie CC and champion Monroe CC.
Johnson set a new school record while winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:18.70. Max was also part of the team that finished second in the 200-yard medley relay along with fellow Jayhawk Brady Lindstrom (Lakewood, NY / Southwestern Central School), Steve Zentz (Dunkirk, NY / Dunkirk HS) and Lukas Baer (Jamestown, NY / Maple Grove Central). Jamestown CC also came in second in the 800-yard freestyle relay with that same group.
Individually, Johnson took first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54:95, over 10 seconds faster than second place. He also brought home third in the 50-yard freestyle. Baer swam to a sixth-place finish in the same event.
Lindstrom was also impressive on an individual level. The sophomore took first in the 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 51.62. Baer earned a fifth-place showing at 1:05:38. Lindstrom also garnered top honors in the 100-yard breastroke, securing a 1:09:38. Zentz scored a fourth with a time of 1:18:18. Lindstrom and Zentz scored second and sixth place results, respectively, in the 100 yard individual medley.
Lastly, in the 200-yard free, Zentz had his best showing of the day, winning the event in 2:10:81.
