Panama Senior Named Player Of The Year In CCAA D2 West
Panama, Westfield, Clymer/Sherman and Westfield each placed a pair of players on the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West All-Star team as voted on recently by the league’s coaches.
Panthers senior Sarah Harvey was named the league’s Player of the Year. She led Panama with 197 kills, 54 aces and was second with 151 digs and 39 assists. Senior teammate Corinne Hovey joined Harvey on the First Team. Hovey led the team in digs with 220 and serves received with 254, and was second on the team with 43 aces.
The Panthers won the league title with a 14-0 record and finished 18-2 overall, falling to Chautauqua Lake in the Section VI final.
The Thunderbirds, who went on to claim the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D championship, were represented by Ava Olson and Brynn Engdahl on the First Team.
Olson, a senior, led Chautauqua Lake in kills with 220 and aces with 104, was second on the team with 318 assists, and was third in serves received with 266 and digs with 332. Engdahl, also a senior, was second in kills with 175, digs with 349 and serves received with 274, and fourth in aces with 60.
Westfield finished third in the league and was represented on the First Team by Tanleigh Bestine and Keara Kincaid.
Bestine, a senior, led the Wolverines in assists with 300 and blocks with 39, was second in kills with 76 and aces with 64, and third in digs with 71. Kincaid, also a senior, led the team in kills with 175 and aces with 86, and was second in blocks with 20 and digs with 120.
Clymer/Sherman finished fourth in the league and was represented on the First Team by Alexys Neckers and Janelle Burchanowski.
Neckers, a senior, had 30 aces, 129 kills, 94 digs and six blocks, while Burchanowski, a junior, had 37 aces, 40 kills, 134 assists and 18 digs.
Seniors Kylie Morgan and Kylie Range represented Panama on the Second Team where they were joined by Chautauqua Lake senior Bre Smith. Maple Grove seniors Hannah Benson and Hayley Johnson, Brocton senior Andrea Spiller and sophomore Grace Lundin, and Forestville junior Kaitie LoManto rounded out the Second Team.
Brocton won the Team Sportsmanship Award, while Westfield’s Alina Franklin was the Individual Sportsmanship Award winner. Other individuals honored for their sportsmanship were: Panama’s Sharayah Fuller, Chautauqua Lake’s Noli Paddock, Clymer/Sherman’s Lily Martin, Brocton’s Haleigh Furhman, Maple Grove’s Piper Faulk and Cassadaga Valley’s Mia Fanara.
