Thunderbirds Fall At Maple Grove, Frewsburg Wraps Up 4th Straight League Championship

BEMUS POINT — Kylie Kress picked the right time for a breakaway.
The Maple Grove freshman’s goal at the 34:54 mark of the second half stood up and the Red Dragons held off Chautauqua Lake 1-0 in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West soccer game Wednesday evening.
The Thunderbirds, needing to match Frewsburg’s result against Westfield/Brocton for a share of the league title, fell to 9-5-0 overall and 8-2-0 in the league. The Bears beat the Wolverines 13-0.
Megan McGee stopped all 13 shots she faced in net for Maple Grove, which improved to 7-7-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the league.
Lucy Gates made 12 saves for Chautauqua Lake.

BEARS WRAP UP TITLE
BROCTON — Taytum Jimerson collected four goals and added an assist as Frewsburg clinched its fourth straight league title with a 13-0 shutout of Westfield/Brocton in a Division 2 West game.
The Bears (11-2-1, 9-1-0), who led 8-0 at halftime, spread the scoring around. Aleah Bjork had two goals and one assist; Audrey Eckwahl, Brionna Dumaine, Jaden Jimerson and Addison Hultberg all recorded a goal and an assist; Jadyn Trocki dished out three assists; Kaylee Cappa, Riley Hawley and Kealy Caflisch each found the back of the net; and Lyla Salvaggio, Gracie Hyldahl and Brook Lee all chipped in an assist.
Elysse Gruber was between the pipes for Frewsburg, which won for the 39th time in its past 40 league games.
Sharing the goaltending for Westfield/Brocton (3-11, 0-10) were Lyra Stephenson and Colie Bundy, who combined for 24 saves.
BLACK KNIGHTS HOLD ON
NORTH COLLINS — Marissa Grisanti’s second-half goal was enough to send Silver Creek/Forestville to a 1-0 victory over North Collins in a Division 2 West game.
Meadow Azzarella was the winning goalie, stopping seven shots.
The Black Knights improved to 8-6-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the division.
North Collins dropped to 4-7-2 and 2-6-2.
CARNES SHINES FOR TROJANS
FALCONER — Kaylyn Carnes scored both goals in the second half for Southwestern in a 2-1 Division 1 West victory over Falconer/Cassadaga Valley at Bill Race Field.
Braya Beaver made three saves for the Trojans (12-3-1, 10-2-0).
The Golden Cougars fell to 11-3-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the league..
WARRIORS PREVAIL
CATTARAUGUS — Leilene McComber, Avianna Stahlman and Izabella Milks each scored for Salamanca in a 3-1 East Division win over Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
Madisyn Lafferty had an assist and Keianna John made eight saves for the Warriors (5-8-3, 5-6-1).
The Timberwolves fell to 3-11-1 overall and 2-9-1 in the league.
