RANDOLPH — After a long summer, Randolph sophomore Cooper Freeman had no trouble getting to his top form and leading the Cardinals to a 5-0 win in the boys soccer season opener against Chautauqua Lake on Wednesday.
In the fourth minute Freeman first found the back of the net on a pass from Isaac Pihlblad and then 11 minutes later Freeman was assisting Griffin Nelson for the second goal of the game. Freeman finished the first half with his second goal on an assist from Parker Patterson.
Making a contribution on every goal, Freeman was the setup man for Jacob Zink’s 54th minute tally and then Ryder Smith’s fifth and final goal for the Cardinals.
Randolph (1-0) managed the shutout thanks to two saves from Delsin Tallchief in net.
Chautauqua Lake (0-1) goalkeeper Brendan Klossner made five saves in the effort.
