Chants of “unlucky’ echoed throughout the JCC pitch as a shot from Gannon’s Gonzalo Aparisi rang off the post and crossbar before finding the back of the net to put the Jayhawks in a 1-0 hole just two minutes into the contest.
The early 1-0 deficit lasted throughout the first half with JCC’s Finley Newman making the next nine saves before he was taken out of the non-league affair at halftime.
“We played a very solid first half,” said JCC head coach Patrick Anderson. “The only difference was a goal with a very high degree of difficulty.”
The second half saw the score remain 1-0 before Gannon potted home three goals in nine minutes from the 62nd minute through the 71st minute.
“The second half started well, but we lost our composure at about 66 minutes and gave up four goals in about 12 minutes. We will be better when we maintain our composure,” said Anderson.
The Golden Knights would add one more tally in the 81st minute to extend the lead to the 5-0 final score.
JCC was led in shots by sophomore Alex Watt who put a pair on net, but the Jayhawks could never break through a stingy Gannon defense.
Jamestown has its first road contest on Wednesday when it visits Finger Lakes Community College. The Jayhawks return home on Sunday hosting Bryant and Stratton-Rochester.
