Gus Macker Basketball Tournament Makes Return To City
After a 5-year absence the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament makes its return to Jamestown.
Hosted by the City of Jamestown and Collaborative Children’s Solutions and partially funded by the Jamestown Local Development Corporation the festival like atmosphere will take over Harrison Street in Brooklyn Square and bring thousands and spectators and players to Jamestown from over two dozen areas throughout N.Y., Ohio and Pennsylvania.
For 49 years the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament has traveled around the United States serving as an action packed, family friendly, community collaboration sports activity. Jamestown has formed a partnership with Collaborative Children’s Solutions to bring all the excitement back on Saturday, Aug. 19 and Sunday, Aug. 20.
“It is an honor and a privilege to continue the commitment Collaborative Children’s Solutions continues to make to the Jamestown Community and the children who live in it,” stated Patrick Smeraldo, President of Collaborative Children’s Solutions. “The Gus Macker 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament not only offers an incredible opportunity to the kids of Chautauqua County, but also follows up with the commitment we continue to make in providing entertainment to boost the initiative of bringing visitors to our incredible county in hopes of branding us as a travel destination. Projects like these not only provide activities for the residents of Chautauqua County, but also looks to provide a possible economic impact in the $500,000 range.”
Pre-tournament excitement will be ramped up on Friday night from 4-7 when we encourage all of the players to stop down and register for the weekend and the community to stop down to check out the festivities. Harrison Street will close on Friday at noon and reopen on Sunday night at 6.
We have a confirmed field of 148 teams for this year’s event and the streets of Jamestown will be packed with a festival atmosphere brining the youngest of our Macker Mites up to the adult players who will compete for the top prize in their divisions.
With the tournament taking place in the middle of Harrison Street between Main Street and Foote Avenue we will have great music, food vendors with some great eats and a few craft vendors for your shopping pleasure. Collaborative Children’s Solutions would like to thank the City of Jamestown and all its incredible employees who have been assisting, the Jamestown Local Development Corporation for assisting with funding for the event, our signature sponsor, the Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, all of the sponsors and you the community for assisting us with bringing this incredible community event back!
There will be plenty of good eats, great music, incredible hoops, and more friendly competition than you could imagine so join us on Aug. 19 and 20 when the Macker takes over the streets of Jamestown.
This event would also not be possible without the hundred of volunteers that will assist us with various duties. If you or your organization would like to get involved please email us at ccsolutiions716@gmail.com
