Tofil Shoots Record 76 At Whispering Pines GC
MEADVILLE, Pa. — Ed Tofil shot a new Wednesday Travel League course record 76 at Whispering Pines Golf Course.
Josh Hilliker, the former record holder with 79, shot a 77 to finish in second place. In a tie for third place with 80s were Robert Calph and Jeff Nelson. On the front nine, Nelson led with 37 while the back nine was led by Tofil and Hilliker with 37s.
In the B Flight, Pat Weaver won a three-way tie-breaker with Tony Destro and John Waterman. Pete Pinkoski was the C Flight winner. Dave Franklin passed Al Etzel for fifth place on the all-time points list. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Matt Haase.
Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Nelson (Nos. 1, 4), Calph (No. 8), Dave Wallace (No. 10) and Hilliker (No. 13); B Flight — Weaver (Nos. 1, 7, 18), Tom Destro (No. 4), Tony Destro (Nos. 6, 8), Christopher Michalski (Nos. 9, 15), Jim Ellman Sr. (No. 13), Waterman (No. 14) and Ron Szach (No. 16); C Flight — Jaime Galarza (No. 1), Dan Kaszuba (No. 3), Pinkoski (Nos. 4, 5, 18), Brian Lore (Nos. 6, 8, 13), Don Kujawa (No. 7), Bob Kujawa (No. 16) and Franklin (No.17).
Closest to the pin were: Joe Michalski (No. 2), Nelson (No. 8), Calph (No. 11) and Dave Criscione (No. 17). Winners of the Steeplechase were Tofil (A Flight), Tom Destro (B Flight) and Galarza (C Flight).
