Jamestown Wins PGCBL Opener Saturday At Newark
NEWARK — Tommy Googins, Grady Mee and Henry Juan felt right at home Saturday night in their Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League debuts.
The bullpen was pretty good, too.
Added together, Jamestown left Colburn Park with a 13-6 victory over Newark.
Googins (Princeton) collected three hits, scored two runs and drove in four; Mee (Western Michigan) added three hits and scored three times; and Juan (Williams) collected three hits and had two RBIs.
Tarp Skunks relievers Evan Chaffee (Alabama) and Tony DeLawrence (Barton) both tossed an inning of scoreless relief, while Andrew Ayers (St. Bonaventure) allowed just one hit and one walk, and struck out three in two innings of work.
Jamestown scored at least one run in each of the final six innings and it finished with six extra-base hits.
Justin DiMartino (Farmingdale State) recorded a team-high two hits for the Pilots, while Frankie DiMartino (Hofstra) collected a hit, two RBIs and a run scored.
The Tarp Skunks (1-0) had Sunday off, return to Newark today and travel to Geneva on Tuesday. Their PGCBL home opener is Wednesday against Niagara. First pitch is 11 a.m. on “Kids Day.”
