Truby’s 3-Run Double Jump-Starts Fredonia Past Silver Creek
SILVER CREEK — Jenna Truby’s three-run double in the fourth inning broke open a scoreless game as Fredonia beat Silver Creek 4-0 in nonleague softball Saturday.
Callie Draggett reached on an infield pop-up that fell for a single and Jordan Lucas reached on an error before Gaby Matos walked. Truby then connected on her three-run double to the gap in right-center field for a 3-0 lead.
Jordan Lucas made the lead hold up with another complete-game effort that featured 17 strikeouts. She allowed just four hits and a walk.
The Hillbillies (7-3, 5-1 CCAA D1 West) added a run in the sixth inning as Lucas was hit by a pitch with one out, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on an RBI single by Matos.
Rihanna Benner’s one-out single in the fifth inning was Fredonia’s only other hit off Black Knights starter Kaylee Hutchison, who struck out 13 and hit two batters.
Eighth-grader Rylee Weiskerger went 3 for 3 with two doubles for Silver Creek (8-4, 5-2 CCAA D1 East).
In the bottom of the first, Weiskerger led off with a double and advanced to third with no outs, but Lucas struck out the side to keep the game scoreless.
In the fourht inning, Weiskerger led off with a single and Hutchison walked before the runners got to second and third with one out, but again Lucas struck out the final two batters.
Finally, in the sixth inning, Weiskerger doubled with two outs, but Lucas got out of the inning with a comebacker to the circle.
Laneya Olsen doubled with two outs in the seventh for Silver Creek’s only other hit.
WEISKERGER TOSSES TWO-HITTER
SILVER CREEK — Eighth-grader Rylee Weiskerger threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts while adding two hits and two RBIs at the plate as Silver Creek beat nonleague North Collins 12-0.
Kaylee Hutchison hit a home run and scored three runs while driving in two; Kyla Ziegler had two hits; and Stephanie VanCheri and Amber Lockwood each had two RBIs for the Black Knights.
STEWARD STRIKES OUT 17
RANDOLPH — Kendall Steward threw a one-hitter with 17 strikeouts and a walk as Randolph beat Pine Valley 8-3 in Division 1 East play.
Steward had two doubles, while Kyra Pence and Abigail Pitts each singled twice for the Cardinals (8-1, 5-1).
Kaitlyn Hayes’ two-run single in the second inning was the lone hit for the Panthers (3-9, 1-6).
RED DRAGONS HAVE 18 HITS
SINCLAIRVILLE — Maple Grove pounded out 18 hits and beat Cassadaga Valley 13-0 in Division 2 West action.
The Red Dragons (4-5, 4-4) scored 11 runs on 10 hits and three walks in the first inning. Nine of the hits were singles and Megan McGee added a two-run double.
Alex Halstrom led Maple Grove with three hits, including a double, and two RBIs; Erin Mansfield and Dani Trim both had three singles; McGee had two doubles; and Lydia Darr had two hits, including a double.
Darr threw a five-inning complete game, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out four.
Emiley Anderson, Andrea Johnson, Jordan Main and Alexa Jaquith each singled for the Cougars (1-8, 1-6).
WATERS DRIVE IN LONE RUN
MAYVILLE — Olivia Herrington threw a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks as Chautauqua Lake beat Clymer/Sherman 1-0 in Division 2 West action.
Herrington doubled on the first pitch of the game and scored on a Jenna Waters single for the only run of the game.
Herrington and Waters each finished with two hits.
In the top of the seventh inning, with two outs, the Wolves reached on a single and an error to eventually put runners at second and third, but a pop-up ended the game.
