Panama Softball Gets Past Maple Grove 7-6 In Extras
PANAMA — After loading the bases in the top of the eighth inning tied 6-6 with no outs, Panama found itself in quite the jam against Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West softball opponent Maple Grove on Monday.
Panama managed to get out of trouble with Kylie Range making the heads-up play on a grounder to third which she threw home for the forceout. Then Range made her way into foul territory to catch the second out and shortstop Kassie Lyon made the throw to first.
The Panthers defensive stand carried right into the first at-bat of the bottom of the eighth with Kylie Morgan hitting a leadoff triple, which Jess Lyon capitalized on with a sacrifice fly to give Panama the 7-6 win.
Morgan finished the game with three hits, including two triples, and two RBIs, and Jess Lyon and Kaitlyn Horton both knocked doubles for Panama (5-6, 4-5).
Jess Lyon was in the circle for Panama and went all eight innings, struck out five and hit two batters.
Doing most of the damage for Maple Grove (4-6, 4-5) was Alex Caldwell with three hits, including a triple, Dani Trim had a pair of hits, including a double, and both Lydia Darr and Harper Dawes had two hits.
Darr pitched all eight innings for the Red Dragons, recording 10 strikeouts and walking one.
BLACK KNIGHTS TOP PANTHERS
SOUTH DAYTON — Kaylee Hutchison was strong again in the circle for Silver Creek in Division 1 East action. The senior pitcher struck out 15 batters and allowed just four hits as Silver Creek defeated Pine Valley 7-3.
Pine Valley (3-10, 1-7) scored an early run with Danica Farnham advancing to third on a misread ball in the outfield and coming home on a passed ball that gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Silver Creek (9-4, 6-2) was not down long as the run support arrived in the top of the second with five runs. The Black Knights were led by Hutchison with multiple hits, including a triple, and two RBIs, Kyla Ziegler added two RBIs, Rylee Weiskerger had one RBI and Laneya Olsen recorded multiple hits.
Haleigha Hardy pitched all seven innings for Pine Valley and struck out three batters.
WOLVERINES ROLL COUGARS
SINCLAIRVILLE — Tanleigh Bestine doubled and went 4 for 4 to lead Westfield past Cassadaga Valley 18-3 in Division 2 West play.
Westfield (12-1, 7-0) kept the bats going with Sydney Hotchkiss going 4 for 4, Haleigh Dellow went 3 for 4 with a double, and both Madyson Burgess and Cassidy Phillips hit a double.
Dellow took the day off from the circle. Eva Gnadzinski instead pitched first three innings with five strikeouts and a walk, and Mackenzie Schumaker finished the last two innings with two strikeouts.
Cassadaga Valley (1-9, 1-7) was led by singles from seven different batters, but it was Jordan Main who knocked in an RBI with her hit. Andrea Johnson pitched all five innings for the Cougars.
HUSKIES BLANK RED RAIDERS
OLEAN — Jamestown fell to Olean 15-0 in five innings of Division 1 West action.
Emma Edwards shined for Olean (12-1, 8-0), pitching all five innings, striking out 12, walking one and giving up just two hits. Edwards also tripled, singled and scored four times for the Huskies.
Jamestown (2-7, 2-7) had singles from Kaylee Keppel and Reagan Powers. Keppel pitched four innings and walked five.
TROJANS SURVIVE GATORS
JAMESTOWN — Southwestern jumped out early against Allegany-Limestone in Division 1 West action, but very quickly saw that lead evaporate with the game tied at 5-5.
The Trojans didn’t go away. In the following inning, they regained the lead when Olivia Pappalardo connected on a two-out single to drive in Arianna Silakowski for the 6-5 that stood for the victory.
After having her win slip away through four innings of work with four strikeouts and two earned runs, Silakowski scored the winning run for Southwestern (5-4, 4-3). Madelyn Burnett then came in for the final three innings for the Trojans and gave up just one hit, struck out three and walked two.
Silakowski finished the game 1-fo-1 with a two-RBI single, two walks and three runs scored, Alexis Beckerink went 2-for-2 with a run, Mykayla Morse went 2for-3 and Jaidyn Newhouse doubled.
Allegany-Limestone (2-11, 1-7) was led by Addison Thornton and Megan Fisher going 2-for-3. Thornton took the loss in the circle, walking eight and striking out three.
SHERMAN/CLYMER PREVAILS
FREWSBURG — A pair of six-run innings led Sherman/Clymer to a 15-5 victory over Frewsburg in a Division 2 West game.
Hayden Fisher (double) led the way with four hits; Janelle Burchanowski (two doubles) had two hits and four RBIs; Lilly McKinney added three hits and two RBIs; Elli Bodamer had three hits and two RBIs; and Kelsey Wagner chipped in a pair of hits for the winners, who improve to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the division.
Bodamer struck out 10 and scattered six hits from the circle.
For the Bears (2-7, 0-7), Braelyn Stelmack (double) had two hits and Paige Whippo drove in four runs.
JASINSKI LEADS NORTH COLLINS
SALAMANCA — Hailey Jasinski had herself a day.
The senior smashed a grand-slam home run, a three-run homer and a triple, and drove in 10 runs to lead North Collins to a 28-9 victory over Salamanca in a Division 2 East game.
Jaylee Jimerson (two RBIs, five runs scored) and Ellie Fricano (two runs scored) added two hits apiece for the winners, who improve to 6-7 overall and 5-2 in the division.
