Dellow Tosses No-Hitter
Bestine Goes 4 For 4 With Two Triples As Westfield Blanks Eden
NIAGARA FALLS — Haleigh Dellow added another highlight to her long list of accomplishments Saturday.
The Westfield ace threw a no-hitter as the Wolverines beat Eden 12-0 at Niagara Falls High School as part of WNY Athletics Baseball/Softball Day.
Dellow struck out eight and walked two in five innings while also hitting a leadoff home run as part of a 2-for-4 day at the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Tanleigh Bestine was the star at the plate for Westfield as the junior went 4 for 4 with a pair of triples, three RBIs and a run scored.
Keara Kincaid added a double and two runs scored; Eva Gnadzinski drove in two runs and scored three runs; and Drew Ernewein also scored twice for the Wolverines (8-1).
Fredonia also represented the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association well with a 3-2 victory over Williamsville East.
Jordan Lucas led the Hillbillies (5-3) with a four-hitter in the circle, striking out 14 while walking two.
Callie Draggett doubled while Gaby Matos, Danielle Palisin and Sophia Gullo all had singles in the win.
Dunkirk’s baseball team also picked up a win for the Southern Tier, 7-6 over West Seneca West.
Brady Corbett collected a triple, a double and a single in that order to lead the Marauders (6-3) to the rain-shortened, six-inning victory.
Corbett also pitched the final three innings giving up zero earned runs, striking out four and retiring the final seven out of eight batters.
Corbett led the second inning off with a triple, and after walks to Donnie Jackson and Gabe Valentine, Anthony Cosme hit into a fielder’s choice scoring Corbett and Jackson on an errant throw. Cosme then scored the third run of the inning on a infield error.
Dunkirk scored two in the third as Dylan Bankoski walked, stole second and scored on a Corbett double. Corbett then scored on a two-strike base hit by Valentine giving Dunkirk a 5-3 lead.
West Seneca West (3-6) scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead.
In the fifth inning, Bankoski walked again and stole second before Corbett singled. Bankoski scored on a pass ball as Corbett made it to third. With the scored tied 6-6, Jackson put down a perfect squeeze bunt to score Corbett for the go-ahead run and eventual final score .
Dunkirk managed just four hits, but continuously put the ball in play to take advantage of the poor playing conditions .
RBIs for the day went to Corbett, Cosme, Jackson and Valentine.
Southwestern’s baseball team suffered the lone loss for local teams, 2-1 to Maryvale.
The teams were tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning before the Flyers’ Dalton Harper led off with a single, went to second on James Rindfleisch’s sacrifice and scored on Josh Magda’s game-winning double.
The Trojans (5-3) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Jameson Walsh tripled with one out and scored when Peter Conley reached on a two-out error by Maryvale.
The Flyers (10-2) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jaxsyn Moritz led off with a single and went to second when Owen Baker reached on a bunt single. After a strikeout, Jacob Striejewske hit a sacrifice fly.
Dustin Hendrix had two hits for Southwestern. Walsh threw four innings of one-hit ball, striking out nine while walking seven.
BASEBALL
GOWANDA — Cole Herman hit a game-winning RBI double to send Gowanda past Royalton-Hartland 8-7 in nonleague action Saturday.
Blake Herman went 2 for 4 with two runs scored while Carter Capozzi was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for the Panthers.
Cole Herman combined with Brayden Smith and Al Pachucinski on the mound for Gowanda.
SOFTBALL
ALLEGANY — Kendall Steward was named the tournament MVP as Randolph beat Portville 8-1 to claim the second annual Don Jordan Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Allegany-Limestone.
The Cardinals senior threw a complete-game four-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks while adding two singles and three RBIs.
Kyra Pence and Harper Smith were also named to the all-tournament team for Randolph. Pence doubled, stole a base, drove in a run and scored three times while Smith singled and scored a run in Saturday’s championship game.
Abigail Pitts tripled and drove in two runs; Quinn Pence singled; and Juliana Syracuse singled, drove in a run and scored a run for the Cardinals.
Randolph advanced to the championship game by beating Allegany-Limestone 18-5 on Friday in the first round.
