Drake, Beaver, Pence, Brink Are Highest Honored In Respective Classes

Twenty-one local girls were honored by the New York State Sportswriters Association on Friday and listed on their basketball all-state teams.
Panama senior Mandy Brink received the highest recognition as she was named to the Class D First Team after averaging 23.5 points, 5.9 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game for the Panthers, who won Section VI and Far West Regional titles before losing in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association semifinals. Brink’s sophomore teammate Kaitlyn Horton received honorable-mention recognition after averaging 9.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Southwestern junior Reece Beaver was named to the Class B Second Team after leading the Trojans to a Section VI Class B2 title. Beaver averaged 24.2 points, 4.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game.
Jamestown senior Marley Drake was named to the Class AA Eighth Team after averaging 22.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.3 assists per game for the Red Raiders, who advanced to the Section VI Class AA final. Drake’s senior teammate Kylie O’Brien was named the 13th Team after averaging 12.9 points, 15.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.
Randolph, which won Section VI and Far West Regional Class C titles before advancing to the state final, had three players honored on all-state teams. Senior Kyra Pence was named to the Second Team after averaging 13.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 4.1 steals per game; eighth-grader Skylar Herington was named to the Fifth Team after averaging 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.2 steals per game; and sophomore Payton Morrison was named to the Seventh Team after averaging 12.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.7 assists per game.

Back in Class D, Clymer junior Alexys Neckers was named to the Fourth Team after averaging 15.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.1 assists per game for the Pirates. Neckers’ senior teammate Aurora Ordines received honorable-mention recognition after averaging 10.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game.
Westfield junior Tanleigh Bestine was named to the Class D Fifth Team after averaging 16.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.3 assists per game for the Wolverines. Bestine’s senior teammate Haleigh Dellow was named to the Eighth Team after averaging 13.4 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.6 steals, 2.6 blocked shots and 2.5 assists per game.
Falconer senior Dani Krenzer was named to the Class B Eighth Team after averaging 16.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.0 assists per game for the Golden Falcons.
Sherman senior Hayden Fisher was named to the Class D Ninth Team after averaging 13.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game for the Wildcats. Fisher’s senior teammate Paige Gratto received honorable-mention recognition after averaging 11.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.0 assists per game.
Frewsburg sophomore Teghan Trocki was named to the Class C 10th Team after averaging 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.9 assists per game while her eighth-grade sister and teammate Jadyn Trocki was named to the 13th Team after averaging 13.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.7 assists per game.

Cassadaga Valley sophomore Emiley Anderson was named to the Class C 11th Team after averaging 18.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 1.4 assists per game for the Cougars while her sophomore teammate Aliyah Hopkins received honorable-mention recognition after averaging 13.4 points, 13.2 rebounds, 3.4 blocked shots, 1.6 steals and 1.5 assists per game.
Ellicottville junior Dalayla Alexander (10.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 4.6 spg, 1.9 apg) and Pine Valley sophomore Danielle West (13.1 ppg, 5.1 spg, 3.0 rpg, 2.6 apg) both received honorable-mention recognition in Class D.
Other Western New York players honored in Class AA included: Lancaster senior Madison Francis, First Team; Nichols junior Brianna Barr-Buday, Second Team; Lancaster senior Rachel Kamrowski, 11th Team; Clarence junior Ella Corry, 12th Team; Williamsville North senior Miranda Burgett, 12th Team; Nichols senior Quinn Benchley, 13th Team; Orchard Park sophomore Halle Senfield, 14th Team; Lockport sophomore Azriel Hall, 17th Team; Clarence senior Hannah Farley, honorable mention; and Williamsville North seventh-grader Mila Blissett, honorable mention.
In Class A, Williamsville South senior Gretchen Dolan and Cardinal O’Hara sophomore Kyla Hayes were named to the First Team; Sweet Home senior Lauren Hubert was named to the Third Team; Sacred Heart senior Meghan Trapper was named to the Fourth Team; North Tonawanda senior Emily Zander was named to the Fifth Team; St. Mary’s freshman Emily McDonald was named to the Sixth Team; Sweet Home junior Amber Murak was named to the Seventh Team; Kenmore West junior Sophia Balsano was named to the Ninth Team; South Park senior Learsi Sabala was named to the 12th Team; Williamsville South sophomore Leah Solomon was named to the 14th Team; Hutch Tech senior Jimmia Green was named to the 15th Team; Cardinal O’Hara freshman Annabelle Day was named to the 16th Team; Starpoint junior Ava Anastasi was named to the 17th Team; and Williamsville South sophomore Kimora Berry, Amherst freshman Ada Radonski, Starpoint sophomore Megan Milleville, Williamsville East junior Emily Wendt, Sacred Heart senior Mariah Huss and Cardinal O’Hara junior Jordyn Williams all received honorable-mention recognition.
Depew senior Kaylee Krysztof and Lewiston-Porter senior Sophie Auer both were named to the Class B First Team. Depew junior Mia Vannelli was named to the Second Team; Eden senior Maggie Zittel was named to the Third Team; Iroquois sophomore Molly Mescall was named to the Fourth Team; Lake Shore junior Elizabeth Jurzynski was named to the Seventh Team; City Honors senior Ava Purks was named to the 10th Team; Allegany-Limestone senior Madison Callen was named to the 12th Team; Lewiston-Porter junior Aliza Whitehead was named to the 13th Team; Springville/West Valley eighth-grader Reese Owens and East Aurora senior Anna Brinker were named to the 16th Team; and Eden junior Josie Wray received honorable-mention recognition.

Portville junior Lilly Bentley was named to the Sixth Team in Class C. Wilson junior Peyton McInnis was named to the Ninth Team; Holland junior Julia Dietz was named to the 13th Team; and Wilson junior Rian Faery received honorable-mention recognition.
Franklinville senior Megan Jackson was named to the Sixth Team in Class D.
Player of the Year honors went to the PSAL Susan Wagner senior Nicole Melious (43.1 ppg, 11.2 rpg) in Class AA, Hamburg senior Clara Strack (24.4 ppg, 16.3 rpg) in Class A, Section I Putnam Valley senior Eva DeChent (30.5 ppg, 9.4 rpg) in Class B, AIS Dalton School senior Mary Ashley Groot (24.6 ppg, 10.8 rpg) in Class C and Section X Hammond junior Landree Kenyon (23.2 ppg, 14.1 rpg) in Class D.
