Raiders Head To Long Island For State Tournament
The Jamestown Raiders will open play in the New York State High School Club Hockey League state tournament Saturday.
Jamestown will open round-robin play Friday at 10 a.m. against Valley Stream/Lynbrook/Sewanhaka at the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink at the Parkwood Sports Complex in Great Neck on Long Island.
The Raiders will return to action at 4 p.m. Friday against Half Hollow Hills.
Jamestown’s final round-robin game will be the final one in the division when they take on Syosset at 4:45 p.m. Saturday.
East Aurora/Holland and Eden/Lake Shore/Pioneer/Springville are the other two Western New York teams in the tournament. The top four of the six teams will reach the semifinals, which will take place at 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Sunday. The championship game is set for 5 p.m.
Jamestown finished the regular season 12-5-1 in the Red Division of the Western New York High School Club Hockey League, outscoring opponents 71-57.
Lucas Gilbert led the Raiders in scoring during the regular season with 14 goals and nine assists for 23 points. Griffin Bogdanowicz was second in scoring with five goals and 15 assists for 20 points. Jameson Walsh had nine goals and nine assists, Spencer Bell contributed 10 goals and five assists, Carson Olson had eight goals and seven assists, Baylor Hirliman had eight goals and four assists, Lucas Lisciandro had three goals and nine assists, and Zachary Rhodes had five goals and five assists.
Collin Norlander played all 18 games in net for Jamestown.
In the postseason, the Raiders beat Royalton-Hartland/Barker/Medina 2-0 in a best-of-three series. Hirliman and Olson each scored a goal with assists from Lisciandro and Gilbert as Jamestown won the first game 2-1 at the Depew Ice Pavilion. In Game 2 at Northwest Arena, Hirliman, Walsh, Mason Lobb, Christian Wilshire and Rhodes scored goals in a 5-2 win for the Raiders. Hirliman and Rhodes had two assists apiece, while Lisciandro, Walsh and Bell each had one.
That victory sent Jamestown to a “Super Sunday” showdown with Eden/Lake Shore/Pioneer/Springville last Friday at KeyBank Center in Buffalo. The teams played an even first two periods before Eden/Lake Shore/Pioneer/Springville’s Nate Smith broke through in the third period with a goal that would prove to be the game winner.
East Aurora/Holland went 7-9-2 in the Red Division and Eden/Lake Shore/Pioneer/Springville was 12-5-0-1 in the White Division.
