Host Salamanca, Maple Grove To Play For Veterans Cup Title

SALAMANCA — Jaxon Tarr was 3 for 3 with a triple and four RBIs as Salamanca beat Cassadaga Valley 10-1 in the opening round of the Veterans Cup on Tuesday.

Jaxson Ross went 2 for 3 with a double and Andy Herrick reached base three times for the Warriors (1-1), who stole eight bases.

Zaron Tucker, Jake Herrick and Cory Holleran combined to allow just one run on the mound for Salamanca.

In the other opening-round game, Kolden McCall threw four innings of one-hit ball and struck out nine as Maple Grove beat Ellicottville 10-6.

McCall went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and scored two runs, Nash Luther stole three bases and scored two runs, and Cam Lombardo scored twice for the Red Dragons.

Evan Bauer and Gian Nuzzo each singled for the Eagles with Nuzzo driving in a run. Caedon Wyatt and Nuzzo combined to allow four hits and three earned runs while striking out five on the mound.

Salamanca and Maple Grove will play for the title, while Ellicottville and Cassadaga Valley will play in the consolation game at a later date to be determined.
