Baehr, Markham Help Falconer Rally Past Silver Creek

SILVER CREEK — The Falconer boys basketball team trailed Silver Creek 41-35 headed into the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 East contest in Silver Creek. But that’s right when the Black Knights began to run out of gas and the Golden Falcons took full advantage by outscoring Silver Creek 22-7 for a 57-48 victory.

“We couldn’t make a shot in the fourth quarter,” Silver Creek head coach Ralph Jackson stated. “We ran out of gas and they got some easy buckets in transition.”

Falconer (14-5, 8-4) was led by Mathis Baehr with 21 points and Rodger Markham added 14.

Silver Creek’s (11-8, 6-6) effort was led by Ray Cortes with 16 points, 14 rebounds, four steals and three assists and Simon White grabbed six boards, four assists and three steals.

BEARS HOLD OFF PANTHERS

PANAMA — Gavin Smith had 23 points and eight rebounds to lead Frewsburg to a 62-54 nonleague win over Panama.

Connor Murray added 10 points, five steals and four assists, while Garrett Brink also had four assists for the Bears (15-5), who led 45-40 entering the fourth quarter. Andrew LeBaron chipped in 9 points and eight rebounds.

Bryce Hinsdale had 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while Gabe Roth had 17 points and four steals for the Panthers (13-6). Tate Catanese chipped in 7 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, while Alex Barmore had seven rebounds.

SHERMAN DOWNS PINE VALLEY

SOUTH DAYTON — Brayden Hayes had 17 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists, and seven Sherman players hit a 3-pointer as the Wildcats beat Pine Valley 57-39 in nonleague play.

Jacob Ferranto had 12 points and six rebounds, while Andrew Beatman chipped in four assists for Sherman (12-8).

Jon Sheldon led the Panthers (5-14) with 12 points.

NORTH COLLINS FALLS IN OVERTIME

NORTH COLLINS — The North Collins Eagles rallied back from a 10 point deficit in the final two minutes against Portville to force overtime, but it was the Panthers who pulled away in overtime for the 73-68 nonleague victory.

Portville (6-13) was led by Aidan DeFazio with 19 points.

North Collins (10-8) was led by Matt Sweet with 28 points and Derek Ebersole had 23.
