T’Birds Take First Place At Chautauqua Lake Girls Wrestling Invite

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua Lake girls wrestling team scored 194 points to take first place in the Chautauqua Lake’s girls wrestling invitational.

The Thunderbirds were led by first-place finishes from Mia Smith at 132 pounds scoring a total of 33 points thanks to four pinfalls and Gabriella Testa took first at 126 pounds with 18 team points after four pinfalls. Lily Snyder took second at 114 pounds, Jalyn Linton finished second at 145 pounds, Madison Szymanowski was third at 120 pounds, Sophia Gervasio was third at 132 pounds and Gabrielle Freeburg was third at 235 pounds.

Fredonia placed fourth with 55 points, led by a first-place finish from Leah Waite at 100 pounds, scoring 16 team points. Meyah Aponte finished in second-place at 100 pounds with 12 team points thanks to three wins by pinfall.

Dunkirk took ninth with 27 points, led by Zalisa Rivera scoring 15 team points at 132 pounds. Rivera secured three victories via pinfall for the Marauders.

Gowanda tied Dunkirk for ninth-place with 27 points, despite just having two wrestlers participate. Emma Schindler claimed second-place at 120 pounds for the Panthers, earning four victories via pinfall and teammate Kiernan Quinn took third at 145 pounds.

Frewsburg’s lone wrestler Riley Hawley took second-place at 126 pounds, securing two wins by pinfall.

Juliana Syracuse represented Randolph and took third-place at 126 pounds and earned a win by pinfall.
