SALAMANCA — When Salamanca junior Lucus Brown surpassed the 1,000-point plateau on Friday against Allegany-Limestone, he did it on the road in the Gators’ gym.
On Tuesday, Brown and the Warriors got to celebrate his accomplishments at home.
Brown scored 15 points and in the process became Salamanca’s all-time leading scorer as the Warriors beat Olean 70-43 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West action.
After reaching 1,002 points last Friday, Brown passed Chuck Crist (1,004) and Jack O’Rourke (1,014) on Tuesday, becoming the all-time leading scorer with a basket late in the third quarter.
“Lucus is Lucus. He wants to win. Just like the 1,000-point night the other night, he just shows up to play,” Salamanca head coach Adam Bennett said. “It was a big league game against a good team. I love his unselfishness tonight. He just plays, and that’s part of why he’s so special.”
Brown also had eight rebounds, five assists and four steals in the game.
Andy Herrick added a team-high 18 points to go along with six assists and four rebounds. Jaxson Ross chipped in 11 points.
Thomas Bates led the Huskies (6-7, 0-3) with 19 points, including six 3-pointers, while Cade Anastasia had 10 points.
Salamanca (9-2, 3-0) led 14-12 after the first quarter before taking over with a 21-5 second quarter.
“Our defensive intensity in the second quarter was outstanding. We created easy offense with our defense,” Bennett said. “They are Olean. Until anybody says otherwise, they went 10-0 last year in the league. They have a lot of pride in that program. For us to play the way that we did, I’m just proud of our kids.”
