Oldtimers Advance To Title Game

WARREN, Ohio — The Jamestown Area Oldtimers will be playing for a title this weekend.

Ron Thomas tossed a complete game and the Oldtimers edged top-seeded Springfield 2-1 in the second round of the playoffs on Sunday at JFK High School. In combination with a 12-5 first-round victory over United on Saturday, it earned them the opportunity to play for the league championship this Sunday at the same site.

In the win over United, the Oldtimers scored seven runs on seven hits in the sixth inning to break the game open. The big hits were a triple by Brian Swanson and a double by Thomas. Jon Sitler, Rick Prindle, Swanson and Thomas all had two hits in support of winning pitcher Ed Baldensperger, who went the distance.

In the victory over Springfield, Wade Nelson led off the fifth inning with a double and scored on Swanson’s single to tie the game 1-1. With two outs, Brian Ferry singled Swanson home with the eventual winning run. Ferry and Swanson finished with two hits apiece.
