Time was winding down in regulation and there was yet to be a goal scored in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association West Division boys soccer game between Fredonia (2-1-0, 1-0-0) and Jamestown (1-1-0, 0-1-0) at Strider Field on Wednesday.

The chance of extra time was erased with 12:35 left to go when Fredonia’s Jayden Yerico was able to find the loose ball off the Sal Tabone corner and poked it past Jamestown keeper Evan Sharpe for the 1-0 lead.

“We knew it was going to be a test,” Jamestown head coach Bonnie Schnars said about Fredonia. “In the first half, we played a solid defensive game and had a lot of opportunities, but just couldn’t connect. It could have gone either way. Our guys played really well tonight.”

Evan Sharpe made six saves for Jamestown while Fredonia’s Andrew Cowan collected the clean sheet.

Fredonia is back in action at Maple Grove on Saturday for a nonleague contest. Jamestown’s next game is Monday at home against Allegany-Limestone.
