Golden Cougars Dominate Dunkirk 6-1

CASSADAGA — Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Kayla Lynn earned her 100th career varsity soccer point as the Golden Cougars knocked off Dunkirk 6-1 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West action on Saturday.

Lynn scored a hat trick for the Golden Cougars (5-3, 3-2) to become the ninth girl in Falconer High School’s history to reach the milestone. Lynn opened the scoring in the sixth minute with an assist from Natalie Dossey and then added her two other goals in the second half at the 51st minute mark from Mary Lundmark then in the 67th minute unassisted.

Dossey followed up her assist with unassisted goals in the ninth and 16th minute before Brailyn Paladino added a fourth goal which was assisted by Dossey.

Dunkirk (3-5, 0-4) struck back in the second half with a goal by Lauryn McCracken in the 46th minute assisted by Tayler Skelly to cut the lead to 4-1, but that would not be enough to get back in the game.

Skelly made eight saves in her half in net for the Marauders and Julia Frazita made nine in hers. Ellyson Baglia recorded four saves for the Golden Cougars in the win.

TROJANS BLANK RED DRAGONS

BEMUS POINT — Southwestern shut out Maple Grove in nonleague action 3-0.

The Trojans’ (3-6, 1-4) offense was led by goals from Avery Johnson, Ellie Pearson and Heidi Swan-Leuze. Both Johnson and Pearson contributed one assist, while Braya Beaver made two saves in the win.

Megan McGee was called upon to make 22 saves for the Red Dragons (1-7, 1-3).

WARRIORS WIN

SALAMANCA — Salamanca knocked off Franklinville CCAA East Division action 4-1.

The Warriors (3-5, 2-4) were led by a hat trick from Grace Hodara and a fourth tally from Mariah Downey. Along with her goal, Downey added an assist and Tia Luke was credited for the helper on the Warrior’s second goal.

Shea Monahan made four saves in the win.

BOYS

TABONE HAT TRICK LEAD ‘BILLIES

WESTFIELD — Salvatore Tabone scored three goals to lead Fredonia (6-3-1, 3-2-0 CCAA West) past Westfield/Brocton (3-5-0, 2-2-0 CCAA Central) in nonleague boys soccer action 4-0 on Saturday.

Tabone also assisted the final goal which was scored by Jayden Yerico, while his goals were assisted by Sam Murphy two times and Zach Hall.

CARDS DOWN MARAUDERS

DUNKIRK — Cooper Freeman scored a hat trick as Randolph knocked off Dunkirk (1-7-0, 0-4-0 CCAA West) in nonleague play 5-0.

Griffin Nelson scored the other two Randolph (7-3-0, 3-2-0 CCAA East) goals and picked up an assist; while Zak Kachermeyer, Freeman, Jacob Zink and Drew Hind all had one.

BEARS DOMINATE

SALAMANCA — Frewsburg (4-2-2, 2-1-1 CCAA Central) dominated Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley (0-9-0, 0-5-0 CCAA East) in a 9-0 nonleague match.

Zack Carr picked up the hat trick while Garrett Brink and Connor Murray netted two each and both Brenden Devereauxand Lucas Eckman had one apiece.

Murray was the set up man for five goals and Eckman helped on two while Issac Hultberg collected just one assist.

TROJANS EDGE MG

BEMUS POINT — Connor Young netted two second half goals to send Southwestern past Maple Grove in nonleague play 2-1.

Maple Grove’s (6-2-1, 4-0-0 CCAA Central) Eli Moore opened the scoring in the ninth minute on an assist from Steven Whitman.

The Moore goal stood alone until the 50th minute when Young found his first tally and then with 10 minutes left Young scored his second to send the Trojans (7-3-0, 4-1-0 CCAA West) over for the 2-1 road win.
