Jayhawks Post 3-0 Shutout Over Tompkins Cortland CC

After a three-game stint on the road, the Jamestown Community College men’s soccer team returned to its pitch and defeated Tompkins Cortland CC 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

“This is one we should be able to win. We dominated play pretty well,” Jamestown CC head coach Pat Anderson said. “We played in their end a lot and controlled possession, which is exactly what we wanted to do.”

The Jayhawks (5-3-1, 5-1-1 Region 3) got on the board after 20 minutes of action as the Callum Featherstone (Hull, England/Barnsley College) to Alex Watt (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Campbell College) connection carried over from the weekend.

Featherstone led Watt past four defenders and Watt did the rest in the 27th minute of play for a 1-0 lead.

After an extended halftime due to lightning in the area, the teams resumed play as Jamestown CC continued to carry the momentum. Ethan Richardson (Llanharan, Wales/Bridgend College) put the squad up 2-0 with a score in the 71st minute off the feed from Carlos Kramer (Caxias do Sul, RS, Brazil/CETEC-UCS).

Jamestown CC tacked on another goal in the 87th minute as the Featherstone-to-Watt connection proved to be the answer once again.

“We had a couple of goals called back, but still ended up with a pretty good overall performance,” Anderson said.

Goalkeeper Gavin Roux (East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa/Selbourne College) went the distance in net, making three saves.

The Jayhawks will be back on the road this Saturday as they travel to Niagara County CC for a 2 p.m. game.
