WARREN, Pa. — Jackson Valley Golf Course recently hosted its annual club championship.

The course was set up to play as difficult as possible and a few players rose to the occasion.

In the Men’s Club Championship, Jesse McMichael won the title for the first time ever after being a runner-up in several previous years. McMichael shot a 77 and 78 for a two-day total of 155 to win by five strokes over last year’s club champion, Nick Petrarca. During the two-day contest, only three players managed to break 80; and Jesse McMichael was the only player to break 80 both days. Petrarca was the only other player to break 80 on day 2 for a total of 160.

In the Championship Flight, Rob Ritchie took first with a 161 and Skete Williams took second with a 162.

In the A Flight, Jordan Baker took first with a 161 and Matt Johnson took second with a 161. Ties were broken by a match of cards from the day 2 scores.

In the B Flight, Mark Sweet took first with a 173 and Fred Utegg took second with a 175.

In the Senior Club Championship, John Aldrich rose to victory with a two-day total of 154. After day 1, there was a three-way tie at 78 consisting of Aldrich, Mark Silvis and Fred Franklin. Aldrich played his last eight holes in even par to claim a one-shot victory over Silvis (155). Aldrich and Silvis were the only two players in the Senior Division to break 80 both days of the championship.

In the Senior Championship Flight, last year’s champion, Chet Loomis, took first with a 163 and Bill Andrews took second with a 170.

In the A Flight, Fred Franklin took first with a 162 and Denny Holcomb took second with a 181.

JVGC also hosted a Ladies Club Championship for the first time since 2017. Though there were only a few sign-ups, interest has been built in the contest for the ladies at Jackson Valley and the club hopes it continues to grow over the next few years.

Kristen Petrarca won the Ladies Club Championship with a two-day score of 186. Her steady play allowed her to maintain a considerable lead she gained from the first day of competition and secure the title of champion. Petrarca was the only lady to break 100 both days of the tournament. The runner-up was Julie Moyer with a two-day total of 198.
